The historic flood caused by storm No. 11 has left very serious consequences. In the past few days, thousands of people in the communes of Van Nham, Yen Binh, Thien Tan, Huu Lung, Tuan Son, That Khe... have had to go through terrifying moments due to the fierce floods. In many places, water reached the roofs, property was swept away, thousands of hectares of crops were flooded. Ms. Hoang Thi Hanh, residing in Kep II village, Yen Binh commune, said: The flood water rose so quickly that 3 bags of rice and many other items such as televisions and refrigerators were submerged in water for nearly 2 days. Many other items such as clothes, rice cookers, electric fans were swept away, now there is nothing left.
At the same time, educational facilities were also flooded and suffered heavy damage such as damaged teaching and learning equipment, collapsed fences, and mud covering classrooms and schoolyards. However, hundreds of households and schools were no longer alone, because functional forces and businesses outside the flood area flocked to the "flood center" to join hands to overcome difficulties.
Ms. Bui Thi Bich Dao, Director of DK Viet Nhat One Member Co., Ltd., headquartered in Tam Thanh Ward, expressed: The scene after the flood was so desolate, the schools were flooded and suffered heavy damage, which was heartbreaking after the flood. The company has immediately allocated more than 100 million VND from the social security fund to support Yen Binh Commune Primary School to consolidate its infrastructure to soon stabilize teaching and learning.
In addition to DK Viet Nhat One Member Co., Ltd., a series of organizations and individuals inside and outside the province have been supporting people in flooded areas. Mr. Dinh Van Lam, Director of Viet Trung Ornamental Plants Co., Ltd. shared: Seeing with our own eyes the scene of devastated houses and garbage overflowing in each house and on the roads, we decided to mobilize 3 specialized cars to Dong But, Dong Luon, Dong Buon villages of Yen Binh commune to support families in waste treatment; transporting domestic water to people in flooded villages.
Mr. Ninh Van Sa, Head of the volunteer group in the urban area of Lang Son city, said: Through many sources of information reflecting the severe damage in the flooded villages, we decided to mobilize resources to organize support for food, drinking water and help people clean their houses.
On October 11 and 12, Mr. Sa's volunteer group went directly to 20 households to give instant noodles, drinking water, disinfectants, alum for water treatment and helped 4 households clean up mud in Dong Buon and Kep II villages, Yen Binh commune and Tan Thinh village, Van Nham commune.
The journey to restore production for the people in the flood-affected villages of the province is still full of hardships and challenges. Ms. Le Thi Binh, a business owner in Dong But village, Yen Binh commune, sadly said: The floodwaters poured in too quickly, 50 refrigerators, along with many other electronic devices were submerged in water, some were swept away by the floodwaters, the damage amounted to more than 1 billion VND. Now we have to start over and hope that the government will soon have a policy to reduce electricity bills, exempt taxes for a certain period of time and have a policy to provide capital with preferential interest rates to restore production and business.
Ms. Dinh Thi Kim Lanh, owner of a general trading enterprise in Tan Thinh village, Van Nham commune, shared: The damage to our property caused by storms and floods is huge. We hope the government will have a mechanism to restructure debt repayment time, waive and reduce old loans, and have new preferential credit packages for production facilities to reinvest.
The water has receded, but there are still many things that people and the government need to solve, such as: environmental sanitation; health care for people in flooded areas; mobilizing resources to restore essential infrastructure; supporting production recovery...
The proactive sharing from the social community, the resilience, self-reliance and solidarity of the people affected by natural disasters are important factors for people to overcome the consequences of natural disasters, soon stabilize their lives and restore production and business activities.
