Accepting new things in cultural life

Việt NamViệt Nam22/11/2023

It is now the end of November, which means almost a month after Halloween (October 31), but every time we have a coffee date, she immediately refuses when choosing MB. Because both she and her 5-year-old daughter are still haunted by the bloody, spooky images that the owner decorated before the festival. She said that for several nights in a row, her daughter woke up and cried. And now when night falls, even though the lights are on all over the house, every step she takes, her daughter follows.

1. Halloween is known as a day of remembrance and welcoming the souls of the dead back home. The symbol of the holiday is pumpkins carved with faces. However, when it came to our country, this festival was transformed by the incomplete awareness of some people. They think that Halloween must be dressed up in horror costumes, scaring each other to bring laughter to truly be the spirit of the festival.

The spirit of "cultural exchange", "experience", " discovery " is nowhere to be seen, but one thing is certain: that horrifying image will haunt the immature psychology of children and is not suitable for the culture and customs of the Vietnamese people.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, there are currently about 10 festivals imported from abroad, especially from Western countries. These festivals were naturally imported when the world no longer had walls separating them, creating richness for the cultural life of Vietnamese people. Of these, there are 3 festivals that are enthusiastically responded to by young people, considered as part of their spiritual life at the end of the year, namely Halloween, Noel (Christmas), Valentine (Valentine's Day). It is this dynamism and creativity that contributes to enriching the national cultural identity, creating a harmonious blend of old and new, classic and modern, traditional and innovative. There would be nothing to say if the activities responded to them in their inherent humanistic meaning, but instead they "transform", blending into festivals in a "different" style, mainly to follow the trendy trend, showing off their "coolness" and sophistication.

2. In the face of the overwhelming influx of foreign cultures, a segment of Vietnamese youth has seized the opportunity to develop the already rich and beautiful national culture to become more civilized and progressive. That is the promotion of the culture of queuing at milk tea and coffee shops serving at the counter. At first it seems strange and uncomfortable, but after a while it becomes familiar and everyone shows their love. Because there, the first comers stand in front, the last comers stand behind. There is absolutely no jostling or pushing.

Share this story with the elderly. They expressed their satisfaction and added that in our country during the subsidy period, the culture of queuing was formed and was almost a rule for the whole society to follow. People who wanted to buy anything from necessities, essential items... had to queue. They were even willing to queue from two or three in the morning to wait their turn at state-owned trading stores. At that time, society was still facing many difficulties and shortages, but the culture of queuing was respected and people followed it seriously.

Nowadays, queuing istaught from kindergarten to higher education. However, many people forget the culture of queuing when they grow up, leading to chaotic scenes that anyone can see in shopping stores, bus stations, etc. Some people even squeeze and squeeze onto the sidewalks and sidewalks reserved for pedestrians.

Culture is not immutable, it can move, supplement, develop to better suit reality. Like the act of queuing, although small, it actually brings great benefits to individuals and the community. When everyone follows an order, it will make things easier, faster, and more convenient for all participants. On the contrary, if queuing is forgotten or denied with an unpleasant attitude, everything will become chaotic and everything will slow down, or get worse.
