In 2023, the global energy crisis is forecast to cause supply shortages in most regions of the world , while oil and gas prices increase sharply. This crisis is still unpredictable and is not expected to end this year.
This puts great pressure on Vietnam's energy supply, which is already in short supply due to the rapid economic recovery after the pandemic. The problem of ensuring a stable and safe electricity supply for the whole country faces many challenges.
Meanwhile, 2023 is forecast to set many heat records due to the impact of the El Nino phenomenon, leading to the risk of water shortages. The risk of water shortages during the remainder of the dry season will be serious. The total flow to large reservoirs in the North Central region is forecast to be 15-35% lower, in the Central Central and South Central regions 15-40% lower, and in the Central Highlands 10-25% lower than the average of many years.
Since the beginning of the year, the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade have closely directed the electricity sector to focus on implementing solutions to ensure electricity supply, especially calling on people and businesses to increase the use of electricity economically and effectively.
Sharing at the seminar, Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu, Deputy Director of the Department of Energy Saving and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Industry and Trade said that since the beginning of the dry season of 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has had very strong directions and action programs to promote the electricity saving program in localities in coordination with ministries, branches, local authorities and electricity customers, especially large electricity customers to thoroughly grasp and strengthen electricity saving work nationwide. "The Ministry of Industry and Trade will develop and soon promulgate mechanisms to promote and encourage the use of energy, the use of electricity economically and efficiently. Along with that, there will be policies to promote the shift in the consumption market for energy-using vehicles and equipment" - Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu said.
According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thang, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, the load chart of Hanoi and the North in general is much more complicated than that from the South Central region onwards. To ensure power supply for people, Hanoi Electricity has strengthened and improved the issue of propaganda and mobilization in the use of energy economically and efficiently. In 2023, the goal is to save 1.7 - 2.2% of total energy consumption in the city; the target is 65% of key load enterprises committed to using less according to the chart that the electricity industry has built to achieve the city's wishes.
"For businesses, industrial parks, and industrial clusters, we will widely propagate to encourage businesses to gradually change and convert outdated technologies that use a lot of energy to new technologies that bring better products and use less energy in all industries related to industry. In particular, the electricity industry will focus on guiding businesses on the energy management system. In 2023, Hanoi Electricity also plans to organize about 1,000 training courses to wards and residential groups," said Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thang.
At the seminar, opinions also said that the authorities need to soon have a mechanism to accompany businesses to gradually convert old, outdated technologies that use a lot of energy.
