Saving electricity in agricultural production

In the trend of integration, in the process of industrialization and modernization of the country, modern agricultural production has been specialized and applied machinery in all stages. This contributes to high quality agricultural products, reduced costs and highly competitive products in the market. However, along with that, the demand for electricity for production will also increase. To maximize the savings of electricity use in agricultural production, it is necessary to focus on implementing synchronous solutions.

The Department of Rural Development organizes the dissemination of documents and instructions on energy saving in agricultural production.

Raising awareness

Last year, the Department of Rural Development promoted practical and diverse propaganda activities. Thereby contributing to raising awareness of enterprises, cooperatives, and agricultural production cooperatives on the use of energy economically and efficiently. These units have become more aware of saving electricity. Enterprises, cooperatives, and agricultural production cooperatives are interested in applying many energy-saving solutions in production and business, while at the same time implementing well the Law on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy and Directive No. 20/CT-TTg dated June 8, 2023 of the Prime Minister on enhancing electricity saving in the period of 2023-2025 and the following years, contributing to environmental protection and responding to climate change.

In order to promote the implementation of electricity saving solutions, the People's Committee of Binh Duong province has issued Plan No. 4304/KH-UBND on the implementation of Directive No. 20/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister on enhancing electricity saving in the period of 2023-2025 and the following years in the province. Accordingly, implementing Plan No. 201/KH-CCPTNT of the Department of Rural Development on rural development activities in 2025, the Department of Rural Development has coordinated with the Department of Industry and Trade to organize the dissemination of documents and instructions on energy saving in agricultural production activities in Binh Duong province in 2025.

The propaganda session attracted more than 60 delegates representing the Economic Departments of districts and cities; cooperatives, farms, cooperative groups, enterprises and other relevant organizations and individuals in the province. The delegates listened to the reporters present the following contents: Law on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy; Decree No. 62/2025/ND-CP of the Government detailing the implementation of the Electricity Law on the protection of power works and safety in the electricity sector; Decree No. 57/2025/ND-CP of the Government regulating the mechanism for direct electricity purchase and sale between renewable energy power generation units and large electricity users; Decree No. 58/2025/ND-CP of the Government detailing a number of articles of the Electricity Law on the development of renewable energy and new energy power; Decree No. 134/2013/ND-CP of the Government on administrative sanctions for violations in the fields of electricity, hydroelectric dam safety, economical and efficient use of energy; Plan No. 4304/KH-UBND of the Provincial People's Committee on implementing Directive No. 20/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister on enhancing electricity saving in the period of 2023-2025 and the following years in Binh Duong province...

Through the propaganda session, the delegates were able to recognize the laws, decrees and related documents on the application of energy saving in agricultural production activities at the unit.

Long term benefits

Enterprises, cooperatives and agricultural production households in Binh Duong have been actively applying modern science and technology in cultivation and animal husbandry; at the same time, they are constantly striving to build a production - consumption chain and promote brand development to increase the value of local agricultural products. To date, Binh Duong has more than 8,400 hectares of land for cultivation using high technology, focusing on clean and organic agricultural models.

Clean agricultural products, produced according to Organic, VietGAP, GlobalGAP standards are the criteria that the provincial agricultural sector focuses on implementing, demonstrated through investment in modern technology, strict management of product quality. Currently, Binh Duong is the province with the second largest number of agricultural farms in the Southeast region and the fifth in the country. The province's livestock industry has also strongly transformed towards concentration and large scale, green farms, and environmental friendliness. Binh Duong has also achieved many good results in building animal disease-free zones, aiming for export goals.

With its functions and tasks, the Department of Agriculture and Environment promotes the dissemination of the use of energy and electricity savings. At the same time, it innovates and modernizes technology to reduce energy and electricity consumption, especially in the stages of irrigation pumping, preliminary processing and preservation of agricultural products that consume a lot of energy and electricity, as well as saving electricity in social life.

According to the leader of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, using electricity economically not only reduces costs for businesses but also contributes to stabilizing the national energy source, ensuring stability to maintain production. Cooperatives, businesses and individuals in the area need to speed up the replication of appropriate agricultural extension models to save electricity, production linkage models to consume agricultural products; closed livestock models using advanced technology, clean technology, saving water... Encourage livestock households and farms to build biogas tanks to create a source of biological energy for cooking and running generators to serve local needs to reduce electricity consumption.

During the production process, it is necessary to take advantage of sunlight energy for drying agricultural products, arrange windows to get light for lighting the factory and barn; arrange air intake and exhaust doors in the house reasonably to help the air circulate best to reduce production costs and avoid using electrical lighting equipment. In addition, invest in upgrading equipment suitable for the production process, use clean energy equipment and technology, renewable energy in production, processing, preservation, and transportation of agricultural products; eliminate agricultural equipment and machinery with outdated technology and low energy efficiency according to regulations of competent State agencies.

Currently, Binh Duong is the province with the second largest number of agricultural farms in the Southeast region and the fifth in the country. To maximize the savings in electricity use in agricultural production, the province needs to focus on implementing synchronous solutions. Modern agricultural production activities using mechanization, automation and application of smart technology and integrated technology require proactive, efficient, stable and sustainable energy supply technologies such as solar energy, wind power, etc. These are renewable energy sources that need attention and investment.
