According to Thanh Nien , at the indoor display area at the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024, the booth of the Vietnam Defense Industry (General Department of Defense Industry) attracted much attention because it displayed many new generation weapons produced by Vietnam.

Vietnam's new generation weapons equipped for the army and other military branches are highly integrated and scientifically -based, with many outstanding features such as: control, increased range, increased power, increased shooting accuracy and mobility...

The most prominent items on display at the weapons and ammunition display area are two types of anti-tank mines produced by the Institute of Weapons (General Department of Defense Industry). The MCT-83 mine is an independent state-level project, and the MCT-72 mine is a ministerial-level project that was just completed two weeks ago.

Captain Nguyen Duy Khanh, an officer of the Grenade and Firearms Department (Institute of Weapons), said that the MCT-83 mine weighs 27 - 31 kg, has a diameter of 230 mm and is armored. In terms of operating principle, when the mine is about 200 m away from the target, a tank or armored vehicle, the vehicle's vibrations are received and reported to the command center.

When the command center receives the insurance, it opens and the infrared is activated. If the tank passes through the infrared, the explosives in the mine will explode, forcing the funnel inside the mine to shoot out. Due to the difference in velocity between the head and tail, a cooling current is created on the flight path, causing the funnel to shoot straight at the tank at a very high speed, penetrating the tank's steel layer.

"When the funnel penetrates the tank's steel layer, it will cause stun. If the iron block penetrates completely inside, it will detonate the ammunition in the tank, causing the tank to explode," Captain Khanh said, adding that the mine has been researched since 2021 and the project has just been completed. With the ability to penetrate 100 mm of steel, the MCT-83 mine can destroy all types of tanks.

Meanwhile, MCT-72 is a mine used to destroy the chassis, machinery and crew of tanks, armored vehicles, self-propelled artillery and some other types of motor vehicles. The mine has a diameter of 250 mm, a height of 128 mm, weighs 7.7 kg and the explosive mass in the mine is about 2.8 kg. This type of mine can also penetrate 100 mm of steel.

Regarding the operating principle, according to Captain Khanh, the MCT-72 mine has a mechanical safety mechanism which is a clock mechanism. When the commander removes the clock for about 30 - 120 seconds, the mine will start to operate. The mine will rely on the magnetic field to explode. In case it measures the difference compared to the surrounding magnetic field, if it reaches the set threshold, it will automatically detonate.

Both MCT-83 and MCT-72 mines currently use smart sensors that can accurately identify targets such as armored vehicles and tanks.
