After the shock of the global COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent crisis and political conflicts, the recovery of the world economy is being placed on the shoulders of the tourism industry. Vietnam is not out of this effort when a series of tourism development policies have been issued, and special festivals are held to accelerate this "smokeless industry". So can Bac Lieu keep up with this breakthrough that is being responded to by all localities in the country?

Create a highlight among the "blooming flower garden"
In May, many localities across the country held tourism festivals. Ninh Binh held a tourism week with the theme "The Golden Color of Tam Coc - Trang An", Ninh Thuan held a grape and wine festival; the mountainous province of Son La held a cultural tourism festival at Moc Chau National Tourism Area with the theme "The world's leading regional natural destination"...
Looking at other provinces, we can see the impatience of Bac Lieu tourism. Because when localities have quickly accelerated with a series of attractive products, Bac Lieu tourism will continue to be left behind in this race if it is not faster. It is easy to see that the provinces have chosen the time (summer - the peak season of domestic tourism) and the advantages and characteristics of the locality to launch attractive, memorable and distinguishable tourism products, thereby helping tourists have many choices of destinations for their trips and those of their families and friends. This has created both opportunities and great competitive pressure between localities if they do not want to be "drowned" in the "forest of flowers" of tourism destinations in full bloom. Therefore, right now, Bac Lieu must have promotional programs and typical tourism products as highlights to attract tourists. Some people think that every year, Bac Lieu has the Da Co Hoai Lang Festival, so there is no need for more festivals and activities. However, the Da Co Hoai Lang Festival usually falls in September and October, while summer is the time for tourism to "make money" and the trend of family tourism is on the rise, so it is impossible to only focus on tourists who know how to enjoy Don Ca Tai Tu (usually the elderly)! Diversifying tourism products based on the highlights of existing assets and choosing the right "drop point", Bac Lieu will be known more. For example, organizing activities for young people at Hung Vuong Square in parallel with Cai Luong performances at Cao Van Lau Theater; opening night entertainment venues in addition to promoting spiritual tourism...
And whatever we do, we need to do it faster, more decisively and avoid formalities, because in the race to develop tourism, any locality that does not do anything or does it slowly, just for show, means that local tourism has gone backwards!

A sustainable vision for tourism
Bac Lieu does not lack strategies, visions, goals and solutions to develop tourism as one of the pillars of the economy. The problem is how to turn that strategy into strong steps to help tourism move forward, catching up with the general development pace of the whole country.
From the perspective of other provinces and cities on how to do tourism, looking at the reality in Bac Lieu, we can see that there is still a lot of work to do to support the journey ahead to turn the set goals into reality. One thing that is easy to see is that localities, in addition to making the most of the advantages of nature, history, and culture of the land, also invite large investors to turn those advantages into the main resources to get rich from tourism. Tay Ninh has Ba Den Mountain - a spiritual tourism spot equivalent to Bac Lieu's Quan Am Phat Dai area, but when invested by a leading national corporation, it has raised this tourism spot to a new level, earning a lot of money from tourists from all over the world every year.
Gone are the days of temporary tourism, "living on the fly", the "leading birds" in this field will bring a new wind of professionalism, discipline and class next to the popular tourism types. According to experts, domestic tourists are now very willing to "spend" on tourism, the problem is whether the products and services provided are worth the money spent or not! In fact, Bac Lieu used to have "pie in the sky" for tourism, noisily starting many large projects but after a long time, no construction was seen, only leaving behind a mess for famous tourism spots.
The vision for tourism is also the synchronous development of transport infrastructure, human resource training and importantly, the attitude and awareness of the people towards tourism work. It may have taken Da Nang City a lot of time and resources to have a clean, friendly and safe environment, where tourists are not harassed by beggars, lottery ticket buyers or soliciting and "ripping off" customers. But if Bac Lieu is determined to start implementing it, it will not be an unattainable prospect! The lesson of Phu Quoc - a famous tourism island at home and abroad but people still have the mindset of "ripping off" tourists instead of "nurturing", negatively affecting the image of tourism that is still hot, Bac Lieu must definitely consider it a valuable lesson.
Tourism is carrying out a heavy mission: helping to restore the economy, create jobs for workers after the COVID-19 pandemic, and at the same time build a pillar of sustainable development in the long term. Resolution 82 issued on May 18, 2023 by the Government on the main tasks and solutions to accelerate recovery and accelerate effective and sustainable tourism development sets out the motto for tourism nationwide as "Unique products - Professional services - Convenient and simple procedures - Competitive prices - Clean and beautiful environment - Safe, civilized and friendly destinations". This motto also covers everything that Bac Lieu tourism needs to do and must do from today.

The People's Committees of provinces and cities propose to innovate breakthrough mechanisms and policies to mobilize resources and restructure the tourism industry to feasibly and effectively implement the goals of recovering and developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector, ensuring consistency and synchronization with the implementation of Resolution 08 of the Politburo and the 10-year socio-economic development strategy 2021 - 2030, socio-economic development plans of each sector and locality. Promote the attraction of strategic investors, develop entertainment and resort complexes, international tourism centers and tourism support service industries such as aviation, accommodation facilities, trade centers, and retail services to boost tourist spending.
Focus on linking product and market development; connecting tours, routes, and tourist spots within the region and between regions. Forming a linkage model between localities, with the participation of national tourism agencies and large enterprises. Promoting tangible and intangible cultural values to participate in tourism development imbued with Vietnamese cultural identity, with diverse local and regional cultures; investing in developing cultural industries, in which cultural tourism is important.
Diversify tourism forms and products, focus on linking tourism with other industries in the value chain, associated with green and sustainable development and the motto "taking the experience of tourists as the center" .
