Latest news on storm number 5: Storm dissipates but heavy rain continues

This morning (August 26), the tropical depression weakened from storm No. 5 (storm Kajiki) and moved deep into Central Laos. However, heavy rains in the Northern Delta and midland, Son La, Lao Cai, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An; strong winds and high waves in the Gulf of Tonkin will continue.

Head of the Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Nguyen Van Huong said that at 7:00 a.m. this morning (August 26), the center of the tropical depression was at about 18.9 degrees north latitude; 103.9 degrees east longitude, in the Central Laos region.

The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression is level 6 (39-49km/h), gusting to level 8; moving west-northwest at a speed of about 20km/h.

The meteorological agency forecasts that in the next 12 hours, the tropical depression will continue to move west-northwest, gradually weakening into a low-pressure area and gradually dissipating.

Due to the influence of the tropical depression, heavy rain in the Northern Delta and midland, Son La, Lao Cai , Thanh Hoa and Nghe An; strong winds and big waves in the Gulf of Tonkin will continue.

Head of the Weather Forecast Department Nguyen Van Huong recommends that people pay attention to heavy rain forecasts and dangerous weather at sea to have timely response measures to possible situations.

“This is also the last news about storm number 5 (Kajiki),” said expert Nguyen Van Huong.
