Many sexual partners, not knowing where gonorrhea came from
The World Health Organization estimates that among people aged 15-49, with only 4 sexually transmitted infections (STIs): gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia, trichomonas, each day in the world there are about 1 million new cases (360 million new cases/year). Of which, gonorrhea alone has about 80 million new cases/year.

In Vietnam, according to Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thi Lan, a doctor at the Examination Department of the Central Dermatology Hospital, dermatologists estimate that each year there are about 300,000 new cases of STI infection. However, the actual number of cases is about 10 times higher. Unsafe sex increases STIs, including gonorrhea and syphilis.
"For people who have many sexual partners, 'one-night stands' and unsafe sex, the risk of getting gonorrhea as well as transmitting the disease to their 'partner' is very high," Dr. Lan noted.
As a leading expert with many years of experience in STIs, Dr. Lan notes that easy, unsafe sex increases sexually transmitted diseases, such as gonorrhea. A young person said that before coming to the clinic due to symptoms of gonorrhea, this person had sex with 2-3 partners in a month.
The Examination Department of the Central Dermatology Hospital once admitted a young man to the hospital due to symptoms of painful urination and pus in the urethra. Tests confirmed that the male patient had gonorrhea. The young man also said that he had many sexual partners, and the number of sexual partners changed from day to day, sometimes more than 20 people/month.
In fact, at the clinic, doctors recorded cases of gonorrhea in many different age groups, including adolescents and retirees . There were also cases of premarital testing that discovered gonorrhea, syphilis or other sexually transmitted diseases. Some people said they "didn't know where they got gonorrhea".
Mistaken for common urinary disease
Doctor Lan noted that many people mistake painful urination for frequent urination, a common urinary disease, and buy medicine on their own but it does not cure it.
Therefore, when men have symptoms of gonorrhea, not only they but also their partners need to be examined, especially women. Because gonorrhea in women has very few symptoms or no discomfort, it is easy to miss and continue to spread to their partners. The consequences can cause serious complications for the patient such as inflammation of the fallopian tubes, ovaries, pelvic inflammation, ectopic pregnancy, and even infertility.
The Central Dermatology Hospital has received many cases of patients with symptoms of gonorrhea and other sexually transmitted diseases. Patients are treated according to standard protocols, and personal information is kept private. The disease is cured when patients comply with the specialist's protocol.
To prevent gonorrhea, Dr. Lan noted: "First of all, be faithful and practice safe sex in all situations. Using condoms is very effective, but it must be done correctly, and used throughout the entire intercourse. Using condoms only for contraception does not prevent gonorrhea infection, nor does it prevent STI infection in general."
