On the morning of April 21, at the information session on collecting voters' opinions on the project to merge provincial and commune levels in Binh Dinh province, Mr. Le Minh Tuan, Director of the Department of Home Affairs of Binh Dinh province, said that on April 19 and 20, communes, wards and towns in Binh Dinh province simultaneously organized to collect voters' opinions on the arrangement of administrative units.

By 7:00 a.m. on April 21, Binh Dinh province had completed collecting voters' opinions on the merger of Binh Dinh and Gia Lai provinces into a new province called Gia Lai province, and the rearrangement and reorganization of 58 commune-level administrative units in Binh Dinh province. The result was that more than 98% of voters agreed.
According to Mr. Tuan, it is expected that on April 28, the People's Council of Binh Dinh province will officially vote to approve the policy of merging Binh Dinh province and Gia Lai province to be named Gia Lai province, as well as merging 58 administrative units at the commune and ward levels in the area.
"On the afternoon of April 26, Binh Dinh and Gia Lai provinces will meet to discuss the merger of the two localities with the new name Gia Lai province. Binh Dinh province is assigned to write a project for the merger. Regarding facilities, suitable arrangements will be made for officials to work conveniently. This has been discussed between Binh Dinh and Gia Lai provinces," said Mr. Tuan.

After the merger of Binh Dinh and Gia Lai provinces, the new Gia Lai provincial administrative center will be located in Quy Nhon City. According to Mr. Le Minh Tuan, in the immediate future, Binh Dinh province will requisition Thanh Binh guesthouse (in Quy Nhon City) as a public house. This April, the repair of the public house will be urgently implemented to put it into use soon.
However, according to the assessment, the current public housing fund is not enough to meet the housing needs of all officials. In the long term, Binh Dinh province plans to support officials to buy social housing at preferential prices.
After the merger, the new Gia Lai province has an area of about 21,576.5 km², the second largest in the country, with a population of more than 3 million people.
Of which, Binh Dinh province from 155 communes, wards and towns after the rearrangement has 58 communes and wards left (41 communes and 17 wards), and Gia Lai province from 218 commune-level administrative units after the rearrangement has 77 units left (including 69 communes and 8 wards).

The merger of Binh Dinh and Gia Lai provinces will help unify infrastructure planning, avoiding duplication or lack of uniformity in border areas. Provincial and secondary national roads will also have the opportunity to be re-planned in a modern direction, directly connecting raw material areas - industrial parks - seaports, helping to increase the capacity of freight and passenger transport. At the same time, it will create an equal economic and social momentum between mountainous and coastal areas.
