On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), VNA correspondent in the Russian Federation had a conversation with Ms. Elena Nikulina, journalist of the international news agency Sputnik, who has spent more than 30 years writing about Vietnam and is an expert at the Center for Vietnam and ASEAN Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences .

Ms. Elena shared about the changes in reporting on Vietnam over the past time, especially in the context of modern journalism.

According to Ms. Elena, from the 90s until now, the way of reporting news about Vietnam has had clear changes.

Initially, the articles mainly focused on the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation, especially high-level delegations, visits, and political cooperation.

However, the scope and content of the articles have now expanded, focusing on all domestic developments, from economic and social development policies to anti-corruption struggles and administrative reforms to reflect more comprehensively and deeply about the country.

Besides, Ms. Elena emphasized the importance of Sputnik in providing official information about Russia in Vietnamese.

In the context of the current Vietnamese press, there are sources that often quote Western news about Russia, Sputnik hopes to become an official, objective and diverse source of news, contributing to balancing information, helping readers have a more comprehensive view of issues related to the two countries.

She said that the current prominent news that Sputnik Vietnam covers includes negotiations on US reciprocal tariffs, the Vietnamese Government's efforts to reduce tariffs, as well as economic, trade, and humanitarian cooperation between Vietnam and Russia.

In addition, General Secretary To Lam's administrative reform activities and anti-corruption campaigns are also hot topics that are constantly updated. At the same time, Russian experts are also regularly interviewed about the domestic situation.

In contrast, Vietnamese experts also shared their views on developments in Russia, reflecting the dialogical and multi-dimensional views of modern journalism.

Ms. Elena emphasized that one of the tasks of journalism today is to provide diverse perspectives with clear arguments to help readers draw the right conclusions.

The core values of mainstream journalism such as authenticity, objectivity, and honesty remain the guiding principles in media activities, despite the rapid development of technology and the diversification of information distribution channels.

Regarding the role of digital technology, Ms. Elena affirmed that digitalization has been and is deeply permeating life, opening up many new possibilities for journalism. From social networks, podcasts to other digital platforms, journalists can reach out, expand their distribution range, and interact directly with readers.

AI as a big data analytics tool helps journalists better understand the needs and interests of readers, thereby creating more relevant content.

However, she emphasized that all these tools are just means, and the responsibility to create, verify and maintain professional ethics still lies with journalists.

Ms. Elena also shared about the importance of information verification for mainstream journalism. News agencies such as VNA and Sputnik have built their reputation on thoroughly checking all sources of information, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the content.

She believes that, especially in the digital age, to maintain trust with young readers - who have easy access to social networks - mainstream press agencies need to maintain the quality of verification, while at the same time innovating their form of expression to suit modern trends without losing their true value.

Ms. Elena highly appreciated the development of Vietnamese journalism, especially in updating and improving language and communication style.

According to her, VNA is an important source of news that she always trusts because of its timeliness, diversity and increasingly professional writing style./.
