Russia loses more than $1 billion due to IT-related crimes

In just the first five months of the year, more than 308,000 crimes related to information technology occurred in Russia, including over 189,000 cases related to remote theft and fraud.

On June 18, Deputy Director of the Investigation Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Danil Filippov said that information technology-related crimes in the country caused losses of more than 81 billion rubles (about 1.03 billion USD) in just the first 5 months of this year.

Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Mr. Filippov emphasized that there were more than 308,000 cases of crime related to the information technology sector during this period, of which more than 189,000 cases involved remote theft and fraud.

Authorities have frozen about 16 billion rubles linked to cybercrime since the beginning of the year.

He also said that Russia is implementing many proactive measures to deal with cyber fraud.

He emphasized that a series of initiatives, including technological solutions to protect internal systems in enterprises, personal data security mechanisms, especially strengthening communication and prevention education in the community have been applied. These are the basic foundations that are expected to bring about clear results in the coming time. /.
