Having led the country in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2015, this province continued to hold the "throne" position in 2024 when it "attracted" a total registered investment capital of nearly 5.12 billion USD.
Data from the Foreign Investment Agency ( Ministry of Planning and Investment ) shows that foreign investors invested in 56 provinces and cities across the country in 2024. Of which, Bac Ninh is the leading locality with a total registered investment capital of nearly 5.12 billion USD; accounting for 13.4% of the total investment capital of the country, more than 2.8 times higher than the same period.
This is a strong breakthrough when in 2023, this locality was still in 7th place, with just over 1.76 billion USD.
It can also be seen that 2024 is the year Bac Ninh has the highest total FDI capital attracted from foreign investors in the past 10 years.
10 years ago, in 2014, Bac Ninh was only in 4th place, with more than 1.58 billion USD of newly registered and increased capital, accounting for 7.8% of the country's total investment capital. This was thanks to the Samsung Display Bac Ninh Co., Ltd. project invested by a Korean investor in Yen Phong 1 Industrial Park, with a total registered capital of 1 billion USD.
Notably, Bac Ninh made a breakthrough when it became number 1 in 2015, with a total newly registered and increased investment capital of 3.64 billion USD, accounting for 16% of the total registered investment capital. At that time, the Samsung Display Vietnam Company project increased its investment capital by 3 billion USD.
If in 2016, this locality unexpectedly dropped to 7th place, in 2017, the province returned to 2nd place, just after Ho Chi Minh City. The total registered capital was 3.4 billion USD, accounting for 9.5% of the total investment capital. This rise was also thanks to the Samsung Display Vietnam project adjusting its investment capital to increase by 2.5 billion USD.
From 2018 to 2022, although not in the top 1 or 2, Bac Ninh is still in the top 10 provinces and cities attracting the most FDI capital in the country.
Bac Ninh is chosen by many multinational corporations as a base for investment capital such as: Samsung, Amkor Technology, Foxconn, Goertek... These are all leading corporations in the semiconductor industry.
Bac Ninh's strong growth in attracting FDI is supported by developed infrastructure, stable human resources and administrative reform efforts.
According to the provincial leaders, the locality chooses to attract investment projects according to the criteria "Two less - Three higher - Four ready - One no".
In which, “two less” means less land use, less labor use. “Three high” means high investment capital of FDI projects, high technology and high economic efficiency.
The “four readinesses” include: site readiness; high-quality human resources readiness; mechanism readiness, procedural reform, preferential policies, making the most of preferential legal policies; readiness to support and resolve all difficulties. “One no” is no environmental pollution.
The planning of Bac Ninh province for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, has always focused on developing the industry in depth, with the goal of prioritizing the development of a number of industries by 2030, such as manufacturing electronic equipment; manufacturing components and spare parts for the aviation industry, manufacturing high-tech equipment and pharmaceuticals, medical industrial equipment; high technology and by 2050 will become a center for high-tech innovation and research and development (R&D) in the Southeast Asian region.
Bac Ninh has determined that by 2030, the province will have 25 industrial parks, the industrial development space will include 4 regions including: Electronic technology valley - Yen Phong district; industrial corridor - Que Vo town; new industrial park - Thuan Thanh town and Luong Tai district, Gia Binh district; information technology and high technology center - Tien Du district and Bac Ninh city.
