Provincial Road 585C continues to be damaged and seriously degraded.

Việt NamViệt Nam28/11/2024

Since the Cam Lo - La Son Expressway was put into operation, the volume of heavy vehicles passing through Provincial Road 585C (DT.585C) in Cam Lo District, Quang Tri Province has increased dramatically, causing the infrastructure on the route to deteriorate rapidly and affecting people's lives. Despite being temporarily repaired many times, the road surface on the route is increasingly damaged, posing a great potential risk to traffic safety.

Provincial Road 585C was put into operation and use from September 2022 to connect the eastern part of Cam Lo district with other localities in the province. Previously, the operation of this route was relatively stable with about 411 vehicles per day, of which the number of heavy trucks was about 100 vehicles.

However, since the Cam Lo - La Son expressway section was put into use from December 31, 2022, the traffic volume from this expressway to National Highway 1 via Provincial Road 585C and vice versa has increased dramatically, especially heavy trucks, tractor-trailers...

It is worth mentioning that before there was a plan to separate traffic flows on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway, hundreds of heavy vehicles passed through the route every day. This has seriously affected the traffic infrastructure on the route, while also posing many potential risks to traffic safety and disrupting people's lives.

After the highway diversion plan was implemented, although the number of heavy trucks has decreased, the route still has to carry a large number of vehicles carrying materials for local construction projects, and the impact of recent floods has caused the road surface to continue to develop many potholes and cracks.

According to the Department of Transport, Provincial Road 585C is designed as a level III plain road with a 12 m wide roadbed and a 7 m wide asphalt concrete road surface. The road surface structure on the route has only been invested in the phased phase, so it mainly serves local traffic and does not ensure the required cross-sectional scale and elastic modulus to serve vehicles participating in traffic such as national highways and expressways.

Therefore, when the traffic volume through DT. 585C increases suddenly, it will greatly affect the traffic infrastructure. In the short term, the Department of Transport has requested the Traffic Maintenance Management Board and the road management unit to regularly monitor and inspect the damage points that arise to fix them with crushed stone, and at the same time, add a warning sign system. In the long term, the Department of Transport has reported to the Provincial People's Committee to propose considering allocating capital to upgrade and repair the route to ensure traffic safety.

Regarding this issue, previously, Quang Tri newspaper published an article “Heavy trucks passing through Provincial Road 585C increased dramatically, the road deteriorated rapidly” reflecting the damage to Provincial Road 585C due to the large volume of heavy trucks passing through. After nearly 1 year, this situation has not only not decreased but also caused the road surface of Provincial Road 585C to deteriorate even though it has been temporarily repaired many times.
