Parade held to celebrate 25 years of Hoi An being recognized as a World Cultural Heritage

VHO - Hoi An will organize a parade and many exciting cultural and sports activities to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hoi An Ancient Town being recognized as a World Cultural Heritage (December 4, 1999 - December 4, 2024).

The People's Committee of Hoi An city, Quang Nam province, said that on December 4, the city will organize a parade on bicycles, cyclos, electric cars, etc. on the streets in the old town and throughout the city.

Hoi An will organize many activities to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its recognition as a World Cultural Heritage site.

The event aims to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hoi An Ancient Town being recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage (WCH), the 7th anniversary of the art of Bài Chòi in Central Vietnam being recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity (December 7, 2017 - 2024), the 15th anniversary of Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An being recognized as a World Biosphere Reserve and Hoi An joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

With the theme of "Cultural heritage in our hearts and hands", the events are organized in a variety of forms and rich in content; profound, meaningful in inheriting, preserving and promoting the values of Hoi An's cultural heritage; linked with the city's festival activities and events in 2024.

Linking the honoring of traditional cultural heritage values and cultural creativity towards the criteria of building a creative and intelligent heritage city.

Notably, the seminar "Imprints on the journey of preserving and promoting the cultural heritage values of Hoi An Ancient Town" (December 3) was held. Through the annual meeting between city leaders and organizations and individuals participating in the management, preservation and promotion of the World Cultural Heritage values of Hoi An Ancient Town, they discussed, exchanged and provided information on the imprints on the journey of preserving and promoting the cultural heritage values of Hoi An Ancient Town in recent times.

Hoi An Local Products Museum will be opened on December 3.

In particular, on this occasion, Hoi An city will organize the announcement of a civilized commercial street on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai and Tran Phu streets; and open the Local Products Museum to serve visitors.

Some other activities such as: Displaying publications about Hoi An and the activity "Learning about Monuments through books" help Hoi An children explore and learn about the monuments in the Old Quarter.

Live and online photo exhibition introducing “World Cultural Heritage Hoi An Ancient Town - 25 years of preservation and promotion”; “We with heritage” contest for students of secondary schools in the city.

On December 1, the "For World Cultural Heritage - Hoi An 2024" Cross-Country Race will take place for schools, local people and tourists living, working and staying in Hoi An.

Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh, Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee shared: This is an important milestone to recognize and comprehensively evaluate the results achieved in the management, preservation and promotion of the World Cultural Heritage values of Hoi An Ancient Town; acknowledge the efforts and determination to preserve cultural heritage of the political system and people in the city with the effective support and collaboration of domestic and international friends; honor and continue to encourage organizations, individuals and people of all walks of life to continue to join hands in preserving cultural heritage for future generations.

At the same time, it is also an opportunity to promote propaganda, introduce and promote more widely the values of cultural heritage; affirm the role of cultural heritage in the development of the city; effectively promote the spread of cultural heritage titles to promote tourism services, contribute to socio-economic development, and improve people's lives.
