Overview of the Co Linh underpass construction site after 7 months of work.
After more than 7 months of construction, the nearly 750 billion VND underpass at the Co Linh intersection is gradually taking shape amidst the bustling traffic gateway in eastern Hanoi.

The project to build an underpass at the Co Linh intersection commenced in early October 2025 with a total investment of nearly 750 billion VND from the Hanoi city budget. This is one of the key transportation infrastructure projects aimed at addressing the increasing traffic pressure in the eastern gateway area. According to the design, the tunnel's starting point connects to the Vinh Tuy Bridge Phase 2 project, approximately 400m from the intersection with Co Linh Street. The end point connects to the existing Dam Quang Trung Street, approximately 1,000m from the intersection. According to observations by reporters at the construction site in late May, the project is entering a crucial structural construction phase after months of focusing on foundation work and relocating technical infrastructure. The central area of the interchange has been fenced off with corrugated iron to facilitate tunnel excavation, installation of underground technical systems, and implementation of key project components.
Inside the construction site, numerous large machines and dozens of engineers and workers were mobilized to maintain progress. Construction teams worked continuously day and night under complex traffic conditions. Despite construction taking place right in the middle of a busy intersection, traffic flow has remained largely stable. During peak hours, the volume of cars and motorbikes passing through the Co Linh area is always high, especially on the routes to and from Vinh Tuy Bridge and Dam Quang Trung Street. This is a crucial connecting axis between the center of Hanoi and the eastern and northeastern provinces, so localized traffic congestion frequently occurs. According to the plan, the Co Linh underpass will have a total length of approximately 600m, of which the enclosed tunnel section passing through the intersection is about 100m long. The structure will have a cross-section width of 27.1m with 6 lanes. In addition to the main tunnel, many traffic management elements around the area will also be adjusted to increase traffic flow at the eastern gateway to the capital. Upon completion, the project is expected to help alleviate pressure on the Co Linh intersection, while also enhancing the connectivity of the Vinh Tuy Bridge and Ring Road 2, creating momentum for infrastructure development in the eastern part of Hanoi.
