(Dan Tri) - Bringing Vietnamese specialties as gifts and saying goodbye to return home when his labor contract ended, Mr. Hai was surprised to receive a bunch of watches, western wine, shoes, shirts... from his boss...

Mr. Mai Nam Hai (38 years old, from Thai Binh) is a trainee in Japan. Recently, he shared a video recording the scene where he brought Vietnamese gifts to say goodbye to his boss before returning home.

In the video, the Japanese director happily gave his employees many valuable items such as 2 watches, 3 bottles of wine, 3 shirts and a pair of shoes. At the end of the video, he also showed off 4 more watches given to him by his older colleague.

The male worker said these were valuable farewell gifts that his two Japanese colleagues gave him after three years of working and bonding together.

The man from Thai Binh came to Japan in 2017 to work in the construction industry in Aichi province, after falling into debt due to a failed aquaculture investment.

"During the period 2014-2017, due to water pollution, my family's clam farms were all damaged, causing great losses. At that time, the debt was so heavy that I could not recover, so I had to consider working abroad to earn money to pay off the debt," Mr. Hai shared with Dan Tri reporter.

After 3 years as an intern, realizing that working at a construction site was no longer suitable because of the danger and frequent work at heights, Mr. Hai decided to switch to the agricultural sector.

He applied for a job at a fruit farm that produces wine in the Nasu Highlands of Tochigi Prefecture. His daily work was cutting grass and tending to the trees.

He said that in this highland area, there are many elderly people working for hire, all of whom are close and friendly. After 3 years working on the farm, Mr. Hai has a close relationship with his elderly Japanese colleagues.

"One day, the old man who often went to work with me knocked on the door early in the morning. I thought it was something urgent, but it turned out he had come to give me some chestnuts he had just picked up. Another time, I tried to borrow 30 man (more than 50 million VND) from him. He didn't say anything, but the next morning when he went to work, he gave me the exact amount and said he had just withdrawn the money from the bank.

I was very touched to receive affection from a kind old man while living in a foreign country," said Mr. Hai.

A month ago, Mr. Hai decided to return to Vietnam after a long time away from his family. When he announced his plan to return home and rebuild his career, the director and his older colleagues at work were disappointed and reluctant.

At the farewell party, I cooked Vietnamese vermicelli soup myself to invite everyone. At first, I was worried that the dish would not suit my taste, but unexpectedly, my Japanese colleagues really liked it.

After the party, my colleagues also gave me a suitcase, amulets and other meaningful gifts. This made me feel very warm," Hai said emotionally.

In response to the kindness of the kind people in the land of cherry blossoms, Mr. Hai also prepared Vietnamese gifts to give to his colleagues.

Two weeks before returning home, the Vietnamese worker brought a gift bag from his homeland to greet his Japanese boss. There, he received a big surprise.

"The day I went to the director's house, he invited me in and gave me many gifts. The most surprising thing was that he gave me 2 watches that he often wore. Not only that, he also led me into the house and said, 'I promised to give you 3 bottles of wine when you return to Vietnam. Come in and get any bottle you like'.

When I passed the dressing room, he gave me three coats. When I said goodbye to leave, he took a pair of shoes out of the closet. I was very surprised and touched. The gift I brought was not of great value, but the items I received from my boss were things I never thought of," Hai recounted.

The video of a Vietnamese worker "bringing a gift from home to a Japanese director and the ending..." quickly spread on social media, attracting hundreds of thousands of views. Many people expressed their emotions at the close relationship between Mr. Hai and his friends in Japan.

"I'm still wondering whether I can bring six watches in my carry-on luggage through airport customs. They are all precious souvenirs to me," said Mr. Hai.
