General Secretary To Lam meets with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin

According to VNA special correspondent, on May 8, at the Russian Government Headquarters in Moscow, General Secretary To Lam had a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin welcomed General Secretary To Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to Russia, highly appreciating the important significance of the visit, especially in the context of the two countries celebrating important historical events in each country and in bilateral relations.

The Russian Prime Minister affirmed that Russia always considers Vietnam one of its top priority partners in the Asia-Pacific region; emphasizing that this visit will contribute to deepening the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and Vietnam. The Russian Prime Minister recalled the deep impressions of his visit to Vietnam last January and sent his regards to President Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

Recalling the good results of Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin's official visit to Vietnam in January 2025, as well as President Vladimir Putin's state visit to Vietnam in June 2024, General Secretary To Lam affirmed that this visit by the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation demonstrates the importance of the Vietnamese Party and State to the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation, as well as the high political determination of both sides in further deepening bilateral relations.

The General Secretary expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and solemn reception that the Prime Minister and senior leaders of Russia had given to the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation and expressed his pleasure to return to Russia - a country that has been closely associated with many generations of Vietnamese people not only through political and diplomatic relations, but also through its profound culture, history and people's sentiments. On this occasion, the General Secretary conveyed the regards and best wishes of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and senior leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and senior leaders of the Russian Federation.

General Secretary To Lam emphasized that the Party, State and people of Vietnam always cherish and deeply remember the valuable support of the former Soviet Union and the Russian Federation today in the cause of national liberation as well as the cause of national construction and defense. In the context of rapid international changes, Vietnam attaches special importance to the traditional friendship and is ready to cooperate closely with the Russian Federation to elevate the relationship.

The General Secretary suggested that the two sides continue to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with major directions, namely continuing to consolidate political trust through increasing delegation exchanges at all levels; improving the operational efficiency of the Intergovernmental Committee mechanism and its member working groups; further deepening defense and security cooperation; promoting cooperation in energy - oil and gas, nuclear energy, expanding to the field of new energy, especially clean energy, renewable energy, wind power; cooperating and improving the effectiveness of economic, trade and investment cooperation; promoting cooperation in areas where both sides have traditions and strengths such as education - training, science - technology; enhancing local connectivity, transportation, tourism, etc.; creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, study and work stably in Russia.

The two leaders had an in-depth exchange of views on measures to strengthen political trust and expand bilateral cooperation, especially in areas of strength and potential such as energy, trade and investment, defense industry, transportation, high technology, artificial intelligence, digital economy, healthcare, education and training, culture, tourism, local cooperation and people-to-people exchange. The two sides agreed to continue to strengthen cooperation between ministries, sectors, localities and enterprises of the two countries; remove barriers in trade and investment; promote joint projects in the fields of energy, industry, high-tech agriculture, logistics and digital transformation.

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin affirmed that the Russian Government will coordinate with the Vietnamese Government to implement decisions adopted at the highest level.
