French President Emmanuel Macron, his wife and Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan visited the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) this morning - a school established and developed under agreements between the two governments.
President Emmanuel Macron affirmed thateducation is one of the important pillars in the bilateral relationship between the two countries. The pillar of this relationship is USTH - the 5th university in Vietnam in terms of publishing scientific research results, and has many cooperations with leading institutes and research schools in France.

More than 15,000 engineers, more than 3,000 doctors and thousands of Vietnamese legal experts have been trained in France. The President cited French professor of Vietnamese origin Tran Thanh Van - who has made many contributions to science and Vietnam-France relations.
Mr. Emmanuel Macron was pleased to announce that the two countries will sign a new agreement on education to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in this field.
The world is experiencing many changes and strong transformations of humanity that his generation has never seen before, the President emphasized, that is about geopolitics creating great changes in economy, society, conflicts and wars happening in many regions.

Sovereignty and territorial integrity in many countries are threatened. International cooperation rules and laws are no longer followed as before; freedom of navigation and maritime sovereignty are causing concern for many countries, and the tariff situation is volatile.
Therefore, the President believes that the relationship between Vietnam and France, ASEAN and the EU needs more attention than ever. France and Vietnam have common interests in establishing geopolitical balance and peace, ensuring security.
"In that context, Vietnam and France need to pursue the common goal of re-establishing cooperative relations for peace and common prosperity," Mr. Macron affirmed.
The two countries need to develop education, science, technology, innovation, healthcare, and defense to reduce dependence on other countries and regions, towards freedom for humanity; towards prosperity to combat climate change, avoid biodiversity imbalance, etc.
To promote development, the French President believes that the young generation, Vietnamese scientists and researchers need to solve challenges.
“We must ensure the economy while protecting the ecosystem, having a clean, green and sustainable economic development model to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050; moving towards cleaner, greener consumption and production for the environment. This is also the focus of cooperation between Vietnam and France,” the President asked.
The French President mentioned the field of high technology application and artificial intelligence; emphasizing that artificial intelligence can help people go faster and stronger but cannot replace humans.

According to French President Emmanuel Macron, Vietnam is a large economy that has achieved great results over the past 30 years. However, Vietnam still faces challenges, including being too dependent on coal energy. France wants to cooperate with Vietnam to "decarbonize the economy".
The second challenge, according to Mr. Macron, is that Vietnam must successfully convert energy while developing and ensuring the ecosystem. "If we only focus on the economy and ignore the environment, or if we only focus on the environment and forget about the economy, it is not reasonable. We must balance these two goals, we need to study a clean and green economic model. We want to do this... This is also the focus of the relationship between the two countries," the President shared.
Regarding technology, the President mentioned the development of artificial intelligence, the benefits it brings "artificial intelligence helps us go faster and stronger" but "we cannot let it become a threat to human independence and autonomy".
France wants to cooperate with Vietnam in the fields of artificial intelligence, renewable energy, digital technology, robotics, and automation. Vietnam and France need to share a common vision in these areas.
Regarding demographics, the President said that the world has about 8 billion people, posing problems with food security, imbalance in population distribution, population aging... Some countries in Europe or Asia are in a state of population aging, Vietnam is a country with a young population but faces challenges in labor and employment.

According to the President, there needs to be a change in education and training. Young people who are not trained or skilled will be a threat to the national labor market. "France will continue to support the training of talents for Vietnam at the university, bachelor's and research levels," the President stated.
