US President suddenly creates TikTok account

According to Neowin , although the US government has repeatedly warned about potential security risks from TikTok, President Biden suddenly launched an official account on this platform during his re-election campaign, which is causing a lot of controversy.

Just hours before Super Bowl LVIII, Biden’s TikTok account posted its first video , in which the US president shared his thoughts on the game. The video has attracted more than 4.2 million views, demonstrating TikTok’s undeniable appeal to young people.

However, this move goes against the policy of the US government. In February 2023, the government of this country ordered a ban on TikTok on devices owned by state agencies due to concerns that personal data could be collected by the Chinese side.

Explaining the discrepancy, Biden’s advisers said they wanted to reach more voters, especially young people, who are the most popular group of TikTok users. According to a Pew Research survey, up to a third of Americans aged 18-29 said they regularly get news from TikTok.

However, the use of TikTok in President Biden's campaign also raises questions about the consistency of the administration's policy towards the platform. In March 2023, the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) proposed separating TikTok from its parent company ByteDance to avoid a ban.

It’s unclear whether the Biden campaign will continue to use TikTok going forward, but the conflict is sure to continue to draw attention and raise questions about the Biden administration’s relationship with TikTok.
