At the event, the new US President said he "really wants" to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin soon to end the conflict in Ukraine that has lasted nearly 3 years, emphasizing: "Not from an economic perspective or anything else, but from the perspective of millions of lives being abandoned... and we really have to end this conflict."
Washington's efforts to reach a peace deal are now expected to make progress, the leader said, without giving details.
Also in his online speech, Mr. Trump declared that his Russian counterpart Putin "really likes the idea" of drastically reducing the world 's nuclear arsenal, stating: "We want to see denuclearization. In fact, we have discussed (with President Putin) the denuclearization of the two countries and China will also participate...".
According to Mr. Trump, although China's nuclear arsenal is still relatively small, Beijing will catch up with both Russia and the US within the next 4-5 years.
Regarding relations with China, the new White House boss said that his administration will have a "very good relationship" with Beijing.
Stressing that he only wants "a level playing field" from China, and needs things to "be fair instead of attention-grabbing," Mr. Trump also pointed out the huge trade deficit the US has with Beijing.
Notably, at the WEF, new President Trump had strong criticisms aimed at the European Union (EU), noting that he had many complaints with the EU because of their unfair treatment of American businesses, specifically not importing cars and agricultural products from the US.
Accusing the EU of not buying as many goods from the US as expected, the leader warned that the EU needed to change its approach to avoid facing tougher trade measures. He said businesses should manufacture goods in the US to enjoy the lowest tariffs in the world, or face higher tariffs if they did not.
