The UN Secretary-General believes that under the leadership of the Communist Party, the State of Vietnam andPresident To Lam himself, the Vietnamese people will continue to achieve more success in all aspects, especially in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, had a phone call with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on May 23.
Secretary-General Guterres sent his warmest congratulations to General To Lam on being elected by the National Assembly to the position of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The Secretary-General believes that under the leadership of the Communist Party, the State of Vietnam and President To Lam himself, the Vietnamese people will continue to achieve more success in all aspects, especially in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Secretary-General Guterres affirmed that the United Nations will continue to be a reliable partner accompanying Vietnam in the country's development process.
The Secretary-General expressed his wish to meet President To Lam soon in the near future, to further promote the good cooperation between the United Nations and Vietnam. Mr. Guterres particularly appreciated Vietnam's outstanding socio-economic development achievements as well as its positive contributions in recent times to resolving global issues at United Nations forums.
On this occasion, the UN Secretary-General and Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang discussed the international situation, some recently emerging issues at the United Nations and solutions to improve the effectiveness of the UN development system.
