The facelift version of the Toyota Corolla 2026 was not launched with as much fanfare as the name of this car model. The highlight of the car just launched at the 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show lies in the more modern and refined design lines. In terms of exterior, the biggest highlight is the completely new front end, inspired by the modern “hammerhead” design language previously applied on Prius and Camry. The prominent C-shaped LED headlights, combined with the L-shaped angular front bumper with integrated fog lights, create a much sharper appearance.
The new 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels are reminiscent of the design on the 2015 Lexus ES facelift, while the rear of the car features a red LED strip connecting the inverted L-shaped taillights, adding a seamless and premium effect. A small but subtle detail is the black triangle at the end of the rear window, helping to visually lengthen the car's glass frame. Stepping into the interior, the 2026 Corolla transforms with a newly designed dashboard, extending the full-width air-conditioning vents, adding a row of central air vents below. The expanded center console area integrates two phone trays - one of which supports Qi wireless charging. Another notable change is the 12.9-inch floating center screen – a “huge” size by Toyota standards – using the Snapdragon 8155 processor. However, the traditional air conditioning control system has been removed, replaced by touch control keys on the screen – a detail that may cause controversy with customers who are used to using physical buttons.
In terms of operation, Toyota completely eliminated the old 1.2L and 1.5L engines used in China, replacing them with a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine coded M20E-FTS with a capacity of 171 horsepower, combined with a CVT gearbox. In addition, the car also has a hybrid version using a 1.8L Atkinson engine with a capacity of 98 horsepower combined with two electric motors and a new NMC battery. Toyota said this version achieves fuel consumption of 4.13 liters / 100 km and an operating range of up to 1,041 km. In Vietnam, Toyota Corolla Altis (another name for Corolla) currently has quite low sales with only 29 cars sold in October 2025, far behind competitors in the same segment such as Mazda3, Kia K3 or Honda Civic.
In the context of continuously shrinking market share, the appearance of Corolla 2026 with strongly upgraded design and technology, if brought to Vietnam, could become an opportunity for this model to improve sales and regain appeal in the segment.
