According to Drive, leaked technical drawings from Toyota spare parts documents – shared by the account @cars_secrets – reveal the multi-layered dashboard design of the new Toyota Hilux 2026 similar to the Prado SUV. The large gear lever cluster, high-mounted air-conditioning vents and a clean design style give a solid, masculine feel. Instead of the current trend of elongated screens, the 9th generation Hilux uses a 12.3-inch floating touchscreen, combined with a digital clock cluster of the same size. The interface and operating software are said to be taken from the Prado, instead of the all-new Arene operating system that is about to be launched on the 2026 RAV4.
The interior also features some handy details such as two storage compartments for the passenger seat, a phone tray under the central air vent, and a tilted area in front of the gear lever – which could be a storage compartment or an air conditioning control panel. If it is true to the Prado, the air conditioning cluster will be located right below the central air vent, designed in a traditional button style. An exterior drawing was also revealed, revealing a slim headlight cluster design with integrated "eyebrow" LED positioning lights, triangular fog lights and a slim grille – similar to previous unofficial renderings.
A notable highlight is the integrated step into the rear bumper, inspired by the Ford Ranger, along with the rear lights that protrude deeply to both sides of the vehicle body - a detail that has never appeared on previous generations. In terms of powertrain, the 9th generation Hilux is expected to continue using the current chassis platform, along with two familiar diesel engine options: 2GD-FTV 2.4L and 1GD-FTV 2.8L. Both are expected to incorporate a 48V mild-hybrid system – a technology that has been deployed in some markets but has not yet been available on the Hilux in many countries. In addition, an all-new electric power steering system could be integrated, supporting Level 2 advanced driver assistance features (ADAS).
The ninth-generation Toyota Hilux is expected to make its global debut in 2025 before going on sale in 2026. The big question right now is: will the new generation mark the debut of a pure electric Hilux? That remains a mystery. Video: New generation Toyota Hilux 2026 revealed.
