Toyota Veloz Hybrid from 470 million in Indonesia, about to come to Vietnam to "compete" with Xpander

Toyota Indonesia has just officially introduced the all-new hybrid MPV model – VELOZ HEV Hybrid. This car uses the same transmission system as the Yaris Cross and Vios HEV.

At the Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week 2025 exhibition recently held in Indonesia, Toyota officially introduced the all-new Veloz Hybrid model. With an attractive starting price and a fuel-efficient gasoline-electric hybrid engine configuration, this model is expected to create a big push in the MPV segment and soon be available in Vietnam to change the race with Mitsubishi Xpander.

Overall, the new 2026 Toyota Veloz Hybrid MPV model still retains the strong, modern design language of the internal combustion engine version, except for the appearance of the distinctive HEV logo on the rear of the car.

To add to the appeal, Toyota added a Modellista version with an impressive sports body kit. This package includes muscular wheel arch cladding, strong black side skirts, a two-tone exterior and sharp metallic black wheels.

Not only upgraded in operation and aesthetics, Veloz Hybrid also focuses on safety with the Toyota Safety Sense technology package on the highest-end version Q TSS Modellista. This system brings maximum peace of mind to the driver thanks to advanced active features such as automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning, lane keeping assist, cross-traffic warning when reversing and anti-mistake accelerator control.

The most important highlight of the Toyota Veloz Hybrid is under the hood with a 1.5L engine code 2NR-VEX. This is a Series-Parallel Hybrid system similar to the configuration being successfully applied on the Yaris Cross hybrid and Vios hybrid. The operating mechanism combines a gasoline engine producing 91 horsepower, 121 Nm of torque and a strong electric motor of 80 horsepower, 141 Nm of torque.

The smooth coordination of this Series-Parallel Hybrid system produces a total output of 111 horsepower, transmitted to the wheels via a smooth E-CVT transmission. The advantage of this system is the ability to operate purely on electric power under light load conditions or flat roads.

The power transfer between the petrol and electric engines is so finely tuned that the driver barely notices the change. In addition, the 0.7 kWh battery pack is designed to charge itself through regenerative braking or draw power from the petrol engine, ensuring a constant power supply without the need for an external charger.

The appearance of Veloz Hybrid marks a strategic step of Toyota in popularizing green cars. In the Indonesian market, during the early deposit period, this model is offered for sale with a starting price of only 299 million Rupiah (equivalent to about 472 million VND).

Users have a variety of options with higher-end versions. Specifically, the Q version costs 335 million Rupiah (about 529 million VND), the Q Modellista version costs 350 million Rupiah (about 553 million VND). The highest-end version Q TSS Modellista is listed at 390 million Rupiah (equivalent to 617 million VND).

Mr. Henry Tanoto, Vice President of PT Toyota Astra Motor, affirmed that electrification technology has proven its practical effectiveness and the company expects Veloz Hybrid to continue the brilliant success of the previous Innova Hybrid. According to the plan, the car will officially go into commercial production from January 2026.

In Vietnam, Toyota Veloz Cross was imported and then assembled domestically and currently only has the traditional gasoline engine option. Currently, there is information that Toyota has invested in a hybrid vehicle assembly line in Vietnam, along with a product range such as Corolla Cross, Camry, Corolla Altis, Yaris Cross, ... all of which have hybrid versions, so the signal that Veloz Cross will add this hybrid electric version is almost certain.

The MPV segment in Vietnam is getting hotter and hotter with fierce competition. Mitsubishi Xpander is still holding the leading position, although it has a hybrid version in Thailand and Indonesia but has not appeared in the domestic market. Meanwhile, if Toyota brings Veloz Cross Hybrid to Vietnam in time, this model will have a significant pioneering advantage.
