The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism and District 8 will pilot the purchase of unsold Tet flowers from vendors at Binh Dong Wharf to avoid flower smashing and share difficulties with sellers.
The information was given by Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, at the economic and social press conference on the afternoon of December 28. The purchased flowers will be used to decorate the spring flower street of love at Binh Dong wharf, funded by socialized sources.

According to Mr. Hoa, the Department of Tourism and the locality are currently mobilizing funds. It is expected that on December 30, the People's Committee of District 8 and the District Fatherland Front will work with boat owners bringing flowers for sale during Tet to agree on quantity and price.
"The flower purchase will be spread out among all boat owners present on New Year's Eve," said Mr. Hoa. According to the leader of the Department of Tourism, this will help share some of the difficulties with the merchants and limit the scene of smashing unsold flowers, causing negative reactions. If this method is effective, the department will expand to other districts next year.
The Tet flower market on Binh Dong wharf is held along Tau Hu - Ben Nghe canal, district 8. Most of the boats here come from the Western provinces such as Ben Tre, Dong Thap... The main items are flowers and ornamental plants used for Tet decoration.

In addition to the Binh Dong wharf area, many flower markets are also held in Ho Chi Minh City near Tet. At noon on December 30, the markets often have a situation where the flowers are not sold out, the vendors smash the flowers and let the garbage trucks clean them up because they do not want to be forced to sell at low prices.
