Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 24th Vietnam Film Festival (VFF XXIV), Mr. Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Head of the Steering Committee of the VFF XXIV, emphasized that the opening ceremony of the VFF XXIV and the reception of the UNESCO recognition certificate: Ho Chi Minh City - Global Creative City of Cinema is an event of special significance, marking an important development step of Vietnamese cinema in the process of integration and reaching out to the world.

At the 24th Vietnam Film Festival, the Organizing Committee was pleased to receive 144 participating films, from the competition film programs and panoramic films, spanning many genres: feature films, documentaries, scientific films, animated films... These works will be screened to serve a large audience of cinema lovers in Ho Chi Minh City - a dynamic, youthful city, always open to creative values.

Many films not only touch the emotions of domestic audiences but also become cultural ambassadors, contributing to promoting the image of the country, people, cultural identity and tourism of Vietnam to international friends. This shows that Vietnamese cinema is gradually affirming its position on the world cinema map.
“The 24th Vietnam Film Festival is not only a professional forum, a place to honor artistic values, but also a festival for the audience - those who add vitality to cinema,” comrade Ta Quang Dong emphasized.

In particular, within the framework of today's event, UNESCO officially recognized Ho Chi Minh City as a Global Creative City of Cinema - a prestigious title under the UNESCO Creative Cities Network - an international recognition of the city's stature, creative capacity and contributions to the global creative urban network.

On behalf of UNESCO, Mr. Jonathan Baker, Head of UNESCO Office in Vietnam, expressed his honor to announce that Ho Chi Minh City has been officially recognized as a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of Cinema.
According to Jonathan Baker, this title is not only the result of an outstanding track record, but also a testament to the city’s strong commitment to placing creativity at the heart of its sustainable development strategy, as well as recognizing culture as an essential pillar for a dynamic, resilient and inclusive urban future. In recent months, Ho Chi Minh City has demonstrated strong leadership, with close coordination between cultural institutions, universities, the creative community and private partners, all working together to build a vibrant, innovative and forward-looking film ecosystem…

Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc said that the 24th Vietnam Film Festival taking place in the city, along with today's announcement ceremony, is a vivid proof of the strong creative and developing momentum of Ho Chi Minh City. The 24th Vietnam Film Festival takes place over 5 days from November 21 to 25 with a series of rich, exciting and attractive activities - from film screenings, exchanges with artists, career discussions, to experiential programs, exhibitions and events for cinema lovers.
