Ho Chi Minh City promotes tourism in the US, targeting high-end customers

Ho Chi Minh City is gradually affirming its position as Vietnam's "super tourist city" with a methodical promotion strategy targeting high-end international visitors.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, a series of activities to promote Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City tourism in Las Vegas and Los Angeles (USA) from October 4-12 through the IMEX America 2025 Fair and a promotional seminar in Los Angeles. This is the world's largest MICE (conference, promotion, event, exhibition) fair, attracting more than 3,500 exhibitors and 16,000 trade visitors from more than 150 countries.

With an area of ​​800 sqft (about 74.3m²), the booth at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center (Las Vegas) is designed with a strong Vietnamese identity, introducing key products including MICE tourism, luxury tourism, cultural - historical tourism and cuisine .

By participating in this event, Ho Chi Minh City's tourism industry not only promotes its image but also directly approaches a network of high-quality international buyers, opening up opportunities to attract MICE customers, a segment with high spending, long-term stays and linking tourism with trade and investment.

According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the US is the country with the highest tourism spending in the world, reaching more than 281 billion USD in 2024. This is also a large and stable outbound market, with tourists tending to stay long and spend heavily on quality services. Therefore, Ho Chi Minh City has identified the US as a key market in the target of welcoming 8.5 million international visitors by 2025, especially focusing on MICE and high-end visitors.

In addition to trade activities, the Ho Chi Minh City delegation also attended many conferences and thematic forums within the framework of IMEX America to update global trends such as sustainable tourism, digital transformation, business tourism (bleisure) and AI application in event organization. These contents contribute to shaping the tourism development strategy of Ho Chi Minh City towards professionalism, creativity and deep international integration.

Ms. Nguyen Minh Bao Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Promotion Center, said that this is the first international promotion activity since the city merged with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, marking a strong transformation of the large-scale tourism industry. With the advantage of marine ecosystems, cultural and historical heritage and modern logistics infrastructure, Ho Chi Minh City has many favorable conditions to develop new products such as cruise tourism, industrial tourism and international MICE.

"The strategy to target the high-quality tourist market in the US is an important step, helping Ho Chi Minh City affirm its role as a leading tourism center in Southeast Asia and realize the goal of becoming a "super tourist city", an international gateway of Vietnam in the new development stage," Ms. Bao Ngoc added.
