On October 7, a 12-second clip was posted on social media by an account named Seni World Travel with the content: "This is the reason why we need to pay attention to the distance issue on Hanoi's train street."
The clip recorded the scene of a train passing through "Hanoi's train street cafe", knocking over tables, chairs, and other items on the tables, causing tourists to scream in surprise. According to the image in the clip, this cafe placed tables close to the edge of the railway. Many tourists were enjoying drinking beer, coffee, and filming the train passing when the collision occurred. The clip attracted 2 million views after only 1 day of posting.
Speaking with VietNamNet reporters, the leader of the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem Ward, Hanoi said he was aware of the incident and was verifying and clarifying the information circulating on social networks.
This is not the first time that clips sharing dangerous situations at the "train street cafe" have spread on social media. Last June, internet users also widely shared a video recording the scene of a tourist almost being dragged by a train while sitting near the train tracks on the Phung Hung - Tran Phu section.
According to the verification results, the incident occurred in September 2024. The male tourist was fortunate to only suffer a minor knee injury. After the incident, the authorities increased patrols at the entrances to the area, requiring tourists and restaurant owners to comply with safety regulations.
In June 2024, a video of a female tourist jumping out onto the train tracks in the "train cafe street" area to pose as a train was approaching was circulated on social media. Luckily, a man rushed in to stop her and pushed her onto the sidewalk.
In September 2022, another collision occurred at the Tran Phu – Ly Nam De crossroads, near the “train street coffee street”, causing a man to be thrown into a wall. After the collision, the man got up and left the scene.
"Train Street Coffee Street" connecting Le Duan, Tran Phu, Cua Dong and Phung Hung streets, is a place that attracts many domestic and international tourists in Hanoi.
Since 2019, the Hanoi government has requested a complete handling of the situation of businesses encroaching on the railway, causing insecurity and safety in the area. Prohibition signs and barriers were erected in many places, but the area was deserted and then crowded again.
Hanoi Department of Tourism has issued a document requesting travel agencies to stop taking tourists to the train street coffee street, but many tourists still come here on their own.
