Wander, a tourist from Malaysia, has visited Hanoi many times. On his recent trip, he took the time to try his favorite dishes, including chicken pho.

He believes that chicken pho is just as delicious as beef pho and is best enjoyed for breakfast.

To fully experience and find the dish that best suited his taste, Wander decided to try chicken pho at two different restaurants.

These are all eateries he visited randomly, conveniently located along the routes and itineraries he planned to explore in the city.

Foreign visitors come to Hanoi and spend time experiencing delicious local dishes, including chicken pho.

The first place he visited was a chicken pho restaurant on Bao Khanh Street. This is also a familiar eating spot for many locals.

Here, the male tourist ordered a bowl of chicken thigh pho for 150,000 VND.

When the dish was served, he remarked that the bowl of pho was simply presented but looked quite appealing.

He took his first few bites of the pho and exclaimed with a surprised expression, nodding in approval at the delicious broth, which had a rich, creamy flavor and a natural sweetness from the fresh chicken, and the thin, smooth noodles. The chicken was tender and juicy, with a pale pink color and crispy golden skin.

"This is truly a delicious bowl of pho. The chicken thigh meat is tender, firm, and has a distinctive aroma."

However, the portions seem a bit small for the price. Perhaps the higher prices are due to the restaurant's central location, near Hoan Kiem Lake," Wander shared.

The next pho restaurant the Malaysian visitor visited was located on Phu Doan Street. This restaurant had been honored for three consecutive years on the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand list.

Here, Wander also ordered a serving of chicken thigh pho and commented that it looked similar to the chicken pho he had tried at the restaurant earlier.

He commented that the chicken pho here has a clearer and lighter broth. The chicken is delicious, firm, not mushy, and fragrant; it feels like it's been skillfully boiled, resulting in a rich, juicy flavor.

The rice noodles are soft; after absorbing the broth, they become smooth and silky, yet still retain their chewy texture, not breaking or crumbling when picked up with chopsticks.

Tourists from Malaysia expressed satisfaction after trying their second serving of chicken pho.

According to the customer's personal opinion, the chicken at the second restaurant was more appealing than at the first, however, the broth "was lacking something" compared to the previous chicken pho restaurant.

"A bowl of chicken thigh pho here costs 60,000 VND, which is considerably cheaper than the first place I visited. That's also quite impressive," he commented.

Concluding his experience, he remarked that both chicken pho dishes were delicious and of high quality, deserving of the positive reviews from other diners.

However, he was more impressed with the second chicken pho dish.

He also suggested that each restaurant serves chicken pho with its own unique characteristics, so tourists can choose a place to experience it according to their needs and preferences to get the most authentic feel.

The second chicken pho dish was a customer favorite because the chicken was tender, juicy, fragrant, and had a distinctly sweet natural flavor.

Speaking to reporters, Ms. Bui Thi Minh Thu - the owner of the chicken pho restaurant on Phu Doan Street that Wander just visited - said that the restaurant was opened by her mother, Ms. Le Thi Minh Nguyet (69 years old), in 2009.

In 2023, the restaurant was recognized by the Michelin Guide in the Bib Gourmand category – for restaurants offering delicious food at affordable prices.

According to the owner, to make high-quality chicken pho, the restaurant uses free-range chicken sourced from trusted suppliers. This type of chicken has firm and flavorful meat, and when boiled, not many spices are added to preserve its original taste.

After being cleaned and boiled until cooked, the chicken meat is carefully divided and separated into parts such as thighs, wings, and breasts, and arranged neatly.

When a customer orders, the staff only then begin slicing and deboning the chicken so that the meat served in the pho bowl remains tender and juicy.

The broth for the pho at this restaurant is made from pork leg and shank bones, simmered for half a day. The owner avoids using pork leg bones to prevent the broth from becoming cloudy and losing its flavor.

The restaurant also uses soft, chewy rice noodles so they don't crumble or break apart when hot broth is poured over them.

Each bowl of pho at the restaurant costs between 50,000 and 100,000 VND. Specifically, chicken breast pho costs 50,000 VND, chicken back pho costs 55,000 VND, and chicken thigh or wing pho costs 60,000 VND. If you order two types of meat or increase the amount of meat, the price ranges from 75,000 to 100,000 VND.
