The tranquil golden hues along the banks of the Duong River.
As the first winter winds arrive, Le Chi commune ( Hanoi ) is once again adorned with the golden hues of mustard flower fields along the riverbanks. Instead of the vast, bustling scenes of previous years, this year's mustard flower season possesses a more tranquil and pristine beauty, evoking the image of a peaceful and rustic Northern Vietnamese village.
The mustard greens, sown in late September, have bloomed after more than a month. Clusters of bright yellow flowers, about 40-70 cm tall, sway in the wind, creating soft ribbons against the cool sky—a scene enough to soothe souls seeking tranquility.

A different kind of flower season
The area planted with cabbage in Le Chi this year has significantly decreased. According to Mr. Thang, a local resident with many years of experience in flower cultivation, unfavorable weather is the main reason. "The weather has been too bad this season. If we planted cabbage and it rained heavily or was flooded, the damage would be significant. This year, people have switched to planting short-term vegetables for a safer option," he said.
Therefore, only a few households still retain small patches of cabbage for traditional farming. The scene of tourists flocking to check in is gone, restoring Le Chi to its original peaceful atmosphere.

Beauty in silence
The solitude inadvertently creates a unique charm. For photographers and travelers who appreciate rustic beauty, the tranquil atmosphere of the mustard fields becomes a valuable source of inspiration. The uncrowded scenery allows them to easily capture the pristine beauty of winter in Northern Vietnam.
The vibrant yellow of the rapeseed flowers stands out against the misty sky, combined with the open space of the riverside alluvial plain, creating minimalist yet emotionally evocative photographs.

Useful information for the trip
Although it's no longer a major tourist destination, Le Chi remains an interesting option for a weekend getaway.
- Getting there: Le Chi commune, located in Gia Lam district, is not far from the center of Hanoi, making it convenient to travel by motorbike or car.
- Ideal time: The flowers are at their most beautiful in early winter. For the best photos, you should visit in the early morning when dew still clings to the leaves, or in the late afternoon when the slanted sunlight makes the flowers' colors even more vibrant.
- Note: Since these are rapeseed fields cultivated by local people, visitors should move carefully, avoid damaging the flowers, and maintain general cleanliness.
This year's rapeseed flower season may not be as vibrant as in the past, but it offers a different experience: a journey to find peace, to fully appreciate the rustic and pristine beauty of the Northern Vietnamese countryside in the final days of the year.
