Ho Chi Minh City sends off the first civilian medical team to Truong Sa island to carry out health care tasks

The first civilian medical mission of Ho Chi Minh City has set off to perform the task of examining, treating and providing health care for officers, soldiers and people in Truong Sa island district.

On the morning of June 13, at the Thong Nhat Hospital (HCMC), comrade Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of HCMC, saw off a medical delegation consisting of doctors and medical staff from Thong Nhat Hospital, the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in HCMC and Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, on their way to perform health check-ups for soldiers and civilians in Truong Sa island district.

Bringing medical ethics and responsibility to Truong Sa

Arriving at Thong Nhat Hospital early, Dr. Bui Le Dan Thanh (Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine) shared that she was very surprised when she received notice from the school to join the working trip to Truong Sa. She volunteered to go with the desire to see with her own eyes the sacred archipelago of the Fatherland; hoping to bring her expertise to contribute to the health care of soldiers and people on the island line.

“Because the Navy has noted that the vehicles must be compact and not cumbersome, we mainly bring essential machinery for professional purposes. The most important thing is to bring the feelings, gratitude and deep appreciation from the mainland, from Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine in particular and the people of Ho Chi Minh City in general to send to the soldiers and people in Truong Sa.”

We promise that, no matter where we are at the forefront, we will always have a steadfast will, shining medical ethics, and solid skills for the health of the soldiers and people of Truong Sa - for our beloved Vietnam”.

Ho Chi Minh City promotes military-civilian solidarity in medical work on islands

Speaking at the farewell ceremony, comrade Nguyen Phuoc Loc emphasized the importance and sacred meaning of this special event. This is the first time that doctors and nurses from the civilian sector of Ho Chi Minh City have coordinated with the military medical force of the Navy to carry out the task of providing health care for soldiers and civilians in Truong Sa island district, DK1 platform. According to comrade Nguyen Phuoc Loc, this is an important milestone affirming the spirit of solidarity between the military and civilians and the remarkable growth of the city's medical force.

Comrade Nguyen Phuoc Loc expressed his emotion when witnessing the image of the white-shirt soldiers busily transporting not personal luggage but medical equipment, medicine, specialized supplies... to ensure the best conditions for the business trip. He also recalled the great contributions of the Ho Chi Minh City medical team in the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic, which is a testament to the spirit of dedication and responsibility of the city's health sector.

On behalf of the city's leaders, comrade Nguyen Phuoc Loc respectfully acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts and striving of the team of doctors and medical staff of Thong Nhat Hospital, Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology and Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine in completing the program of caring for and protecting the health of the people of Ho Chi Minh City in the past time.

With all the trust and expectations, comrade Nguyen Phuoc Loc sent his best wishes to the medical staff of the 3 units, hoping that they will excellently complete the assigned tasks.

“The 30 white-shirt soldiers set out to demonstrate their patriotism through their medical expertise and skills, closely connecting with the Navy medical force to carry out a common mission. This is a coordination to strengthen the national spirit, to be present together at the forefront, where our army and people are day and night firmly protecting the sovereignty of the sacred sea and islands,” comrade Nguyen Phuoc Loc shared.

According to the Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, from this pilot activity, Ho Chi Minh City will expand and replicate the model of military-civilian coordination in taking care of sea and island health into a regular activity, from a medical and health perspective.

“We not only send our love and affection from the mainland to Truong Sa, but also receive the spirit and strong will from the remote island to continue spreading inspiration and motivation to the entire medical sector and other forces. When there is an opportunity and when the Fatherland needs them, they are also ready to participate, accompany and contribute,” Comrade Nguyen Phuoc Loc expected.

Speaking at the farewell ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Dinh Thanh, Director of Thong Nhat Hospital, emphasized that contributing to the health care of people living and working in Truong Sa island district is a great honor for the medical staff of the 3 units.

According to Colonel Duong Van Thien, Chief of the Navy's Military Medicine Department, over the past years, the military medical sector has organized mobile medical examination and treatment activities in island districts, becoming a solid support to help fishermen confidently go out to sea, stick to the sea, and actively participate in the protection of national sovereignty at sea. These practical activities not only contribute to improving community health, but also serve as a spiritual boost, creating a position of people's hearts on the sacred islands of the Fatherland.

In particular, this year marks the first time that Ho Chi Minh City's civilian medical units have coordinated with the Navy's Military Medical Service to organize a medical delegation to examine and treat patients in the Truong Sa archipelago. Colonel Duong Van Thien highly appreciated this event, saying that this is an important milestone, demonstrating a new and deeper awareness of leaders at all levels about health care for soldiers, people and workers in remote islands.

“Not only the military medical force, but now the civilian medical sector is also joining hands in this noble mission. After this meaningful milestone, I believe that there will be more systematic, in-depth and effective coordination programs to improve the quality of healthcare for sea and islanders, thereby strengthening the spirit and strong will of officers, soldiers and fishermen at the forefront of the waves and winds,” Colonel Duong Van Thien emphasized.
