Ho Chi Minh City and Tampere City (Finland) signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation.

At the reception, Comrade Bui Xuan Cuong welcomed the delegation's visit and work, and affirmed that the signing of the MOU demonstrated the strong determination of the Finnish Government in general and the Tampere city government in promoting cooperative relations with Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City.

Introducing the socio -economic development situation of Ho Chi Minh City to the delegation, Comrade Bui Xuan Cuong said that the current two-way trade turnover between Ho Chi Minh City and Finland is about 20 million USD (in 2024), with 24 investment projects with a total capital of more than 27 million USD. Comrade Bui Xuan Cuong said that this number is still modest compared to the potential for cooperation between the two sides.

According to Comrade Bui Xuan Cuong, in 2023-2024, Ho Chi Minh City welcomed many delegations of leaders from Tampere city and Ho Chi Minh City also organized two delegations to visit and work in Finland, focusing on the fields ofeducation , trade, innovation, etc. Comrade Bui Xuan Cuong said that Ho Chi Minh City considers Tampere city as a model for development. Therefore, Ho Chi Minh City needs the cooperation of international partners, including Tampere, and the Vietnamese community in Finland is an important bridge to promote bilateral cooperation, especially in bringing workers to cooperate and settle in Tampere.

According to comrade Bui Xuan Cuong, the MOU signed between the two sides is the basis for Ho Chi Minh City to strengthen cooperation with Tampere city, towards building smart classrooms, international schools, expanding the number of exchange students, developing education and vocational training infrastructure, building smart cities, digital economy...

Deputy Mayor of Tampere Jouni Markkanen highly appreciated the position and role of Ho Chi Minh City and the growing relationship between the two sides, especially in the fields of sustainable development, innovation and vocational training. According to Mr. Jouni Markkanen, the development of smart cities is a common concern of both sides. Mr. Jouni Markkanen said that this MOU will be an important basis for implementing specific cooperation programs in the coming time, especially in the goal of building a smart city of Ho Chi Minh City by 2030.

Introducing the city of Tampere, Deputy Mayor Jouni Markkanen said that this is the most populous city in Northern Europe with about 410,000 people, famous as the birthplace of new technologies and the startup place of Nokia Group. Tampere has a developed industry, with strengths in the fields of smart manufacturing, automation, artificial intelligence... Currently, there are about 1,000 Vietnamese people living in Tampere, which is a useful bridge contributing to enhancing understanding and cooperation between the two cities.
