Long An has a dense system of rivers, canals and streams. In the summer, many children often go to rivers, canals and streams to cool off and play. Without supervision and guidance from adults, these activities pose potential dangers.
Learning to swim helps children prevent drowning accidents.
In reality, not all families are fully equipped with knowledge and skills to prevent drowning for their children . Many children have not learned to swim or do not know how to handle danger in water.
In addition, some parents are still subjective or lack vigilance, not regularly reminding and supervising children when they come into contact with water. Therefore, raising awareness and skills to prevent drowning for both children and adults is extremely important, especially in the summer months.
Faced with this situation, authorities at all levels have implemented many practical activities to promote and improve drowning prevention skills for children.
Recently, Tan Thanh District Youth Union established a youth volunteer team to propagate drowning prevention for children and activities to improve drowning prevention skills for children in the 2024-2025 school year, contributing to spreading knowledge and safety skills in the water environment to the community,...
Deputy Secretary of Tan Thanh District Youth Union - Vo Tien Phong said: "The District Youth Union closely coordinates with all levels and sectors to organize propaganda and training on drowning prevention skills for teenagers and children at schools and residential areas.
Hopefully, through the youth volunteer team , the awareness of children and parents will be raised, thereby contributing to reducing drowning accidents and building a safe and healthy living environment for children."
Training on content and skills related to preventing drowning accidents in children is necessary.
In addition to teaching children skills, local authorities should also pay attention to checking and posting warning signs in dangerous areas. At the same time, parents need to equip their children with basic skills to prevent drowning.
Ms. Le Thi Thanh Huong (Binh Tinh commune, Tan Tru district) shared: “Summer is here, my children are on vacation, my husband and I have to go to work, while our house is near the river, so I am very worried. I also asked relatives and neighbors to keep an eye on us, but I still feel uneasy. To prevent risks, I registered my child for swimming lessons, both to practice skills and to help my child be more aware when playing near rivers and streams.”
Preventing drowning accidents is something that needs to be done regularly and persistently. When society and families are ready to take action to protect children, summer will no longer be a worry but will become a meaningful, safe and joyful time./.
