Inevitable trend

In the era of the 4.0 industrial revolution, many high school students said they often apply AI to solve difficult problems in study and life. Tran Nguyen Hoang Phuc - a 12th grade physics student at Huynh Man Dat High School for the Gifted, Rach Gia Ward, said that in the past, his self-study was quite difficult because he had to go online to find documents, filter useful documents, and then systematize his knowledge. Finding answers to specific problems was also very difficult. "Applying AI helps me improve my learning efficiency. When I encounter difficult problems, if I haven't asked my teachers or seniors, I can ask AI to answer. If AI can't solve the whole problem, I will break it down into parts to find the answer. However, to apply effectively, students must study seriously and should only use AI when really necessary," Hoang Phuc shared.

According to Bui Hoang Bach - a 12th grade student of Physics at Thoai Ngoc Hau High School for the Gifted, Long Xuyen Ward, to achieve high academic results, he strengthens self-study by mastering theory, applying theory to solve exercises to consolidate knowledge, practice skills; for difficult knowledge, he goes online to learn. "I only ask AI to explain difficult knowledge, not to ask AI to solve all exercises because overusing it can make me dependent on artificial intelligence, my thinking ability and creativity are eroded, leading to a decrease in learning ability," Bach said.

AI is also a powerful assistant to help students improve the effectiveness of learning social sciences . Phan Huyen Mai - a 12th grade student of Literature 2, Thu Khoa Nghia High School for the Gifted, Chau Doc Ward shared: "To study literature well, students must have sharp thinking and a multi-dimensional view of all issues in life. I am not passive and dependent on AI, but often raise questions, discuss, analyze, and debate with AI to have a more comprehensive and in-depth view, thereby applying it well in my writing. AI is also very useful in synthesizing information. If you know how to exploit it, learners will have rich and relevant evidence, increasing the persuasiveness of arguments in social argumentative writing."

Promote implementation

According to Circular No. 02/2025/TT-BGDDT, dated January 24, 2025 of the Ministry of Education and Training, the digital competency framework for learners has 6 competency domains with 24 component competencies, divided into 4 levels from basic to advanced according to 8 levels. These competency domains include: Data and information mining; communication and cooperation in digital environment; digital content creation; safety; problem solving; AI application. For AI application competency, learners must ensure 3 component competencies, including: Understanding AI, using AI, evaluating AI.

The Department of Education and Training issued guidelines for implementing the digital competency framework for high school students and continuing education students. The Department assigned the General Education Department to specify the content and levels required for each grade in the current general education program; and guide schools to integrate digital competency content flexibly, without overloading, in accordance with the psychological characteristics and technology accessibility of students at each level. In the 2025-2026 school year, the Department of Education and Training will focus on promoting digital competency and AI education for students.

Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW, dated August 22, 2025 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development, sets the goal of achieving initial results in improving technology and AI capacity by 2030. One of the key tasks and solutions set is comprehensive digital transformation, popularization and strong application of digital technology and AI in education and training. Integrating digital capacity and AI into the education program in conjunction with promoting creative activities and experiences for students will be one of the fundamental and effective solutions to achieve the set goals.
