On July 23, Ho Chi Minh City Police announced the dismantling of a drug trafficking and illegal drug use ring via the Telegram and Signal applications. During the investigation, the authorities discovered that designer Nguyen Cong Tri (born in 1978) and Tran Phu Long (born in 1989) were using drugs together at their home in Tan Hung Ward, Ho Chi Minh City on the evening of June 23.

This information made the name Nguyen Cong Tri rise to the top search position on Google Trends Vietnam. His personal Facebook page is no longer visible, only his Instagram account is still active.

Cong Tri's Facebook account has been unusually active. At the end of June, he closed his personal page. In mid-July, he reopened it and posted about his design activities. On July 15, he shared a photo of singer Truong Luong Dinh performing at the 2025 Wenzhou Music Festival in an outfit he designed. On July 20, he announced that athlete Jordan Chiles wore his designs at the 2025 Espy Awards.

The incident began on June 12 when police conducted an administrative inspection of a house on Lac Long Quan Street and arrested Nguyen Quoc Trung (born in 1991) for possession and sale of marijuana and cocaine. Trung confessed to trading drugs via Telegram and Signal and used multiple bank accounts to avoid detection.

From Trung's testimony, the authorities expanded the investigation and discovered that Tran Phu Long and Nguyen Cong Tri were involved. Both were found illegally using drugs at Cong Tri's home.

During the search, the authorities seized suspected drug paraphernalia including ceramic plates, rolled up bills, and plastic cards. Both admitted to using these items to consume illegal substances.

Tran Phu Long is a long-time friend and also the Operations Director and Communications Director at Nguyen Cong Tri Company Limited.

Nguyen Cong Tri was born in 1978, started his career in 2000, is famous for his elaborate style, hand embroidery and hand embellishment techniques. He is the only member of Vietnam to be awarded the title of Asian haute couture designer by the Asian Fashion Federation, and has participated in New York Fashion Week.

Cong Tri's designs are chosen by international artists such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Camila Cabello. In Vietnam, he designs for many stars such as Ho Ngoc Ha, Thanh Hang and other international artists including Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Lopez, Rosé.
