The 2025 Journalism Competition on Environmental Protection in the Industry and Trade Sector, chaired by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and coordinated by the Industry and Trade Newspaper, the Department of Industrial Safety and Environmental Engineering, and the Office of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, was held in the context of Vietnam entering a phase of accelerating the implementation of international commitments on climate change, especially the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The 2025 competition received 300 entries from central and local media agencies, independent authors, and a team of experts and collaborators. This number demonstrates the strong appeal of the competition in the journalistic community and public opinion. After an objective and transparent judging process, the Jury selected 20 works by authors/groups of authors to be awarded in the following categories: A, B, C, Encouragement, Special Topic, and Special Prize.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, journalist Nguyen Van Minh, Editor-in-Chief of the Industry and Trade Newspaper and Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the competition's Organizing Board, stated that environmental protection is one of the particularly important political tasks of the Party and State of Vietnam. Party and State leaders have repeatedly emphasized the consistent viewpoint of "not sacrificing the environment for economic growth." And the Industry and Trade sector, under the leadership of the Party Committee, the guidance of the Ministry's leadership, and the unity of its staff and workers, has strived to simultaneously achieve two goals: economic development and environmental protection. The growth results for 2025, although not yet fully summarized, have partly demonstrated this political determination and correct direction.

The Journalism Contest on Environmental Protection in the Industry and Trade Sector was organized with the motto of transparency, professionalism, and impartiality. Under the leadership and guidance of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and the leadership of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Organizing Committee developed a new set of regulations, significantly innovating both in content and organization.

Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Van Minh affirmed that writing about environmental protection in the Industry and Trade sector is a difficult field, but it is encouraging that with each passing year, especially in its third year, the quality of the entries has significantly improved. The innovation in the rules and procedures is a crucial factor that helps authors invest more thoroughly in materials, data, and evidence; many articles demonstrate insightful discoveries, in-depth analysis, and practical solutions, not only reflecting the current situation but also contributing to policy direction.

“I believe that the greatest value of a journalism competition lies not only in the awards themselves, but also in the social impact and ripple effect it creates. In the future, the Organizing Committee hopes to continue receiving the support and cooperation of journalists, experts, managers, and businesses. Based on the results achieved, the Organizing Committee will continue to innovate the process, refine the regulations, and diversify the forms of the competition. We plan to propose expanding the competition to include environmental photography, organizing mobile exhibitions, and bringing the works to localities and production facilities, thereby spreading the message of environmental protection more strongly,” shared journalist Nguyen Van Minh.

The press – A bridge to bring policies into life.

In 2025, the competition underwent innovations in its rules, organizational procedures, and approach to align with modern media trends. The prize structure was differentiated according to specific environmental sectors within the Ministry of Industry and Trade, such as heavy industry, processing industry, minerals, waste treatment, circular economy, and green production models. These innovations contributed to creating opportunities for authors to develop more creative content, reach a wider audience, and convey environmental messages through more visual means.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien assessed that the awards ceremony was an important event, not only to honor the winning journalistic works, but also to affirm the positive role of the competition in disseminating awareness and promoting action on environmental protection throughout the industry and society.

Over its three editions, the competition has gained significant reach and received widespread support from journalists both within and outside the industry. The competition not only creates a valuable professional forum but also becomes an important information channel, contributing to bringing environmental issues within the Ministry of Industry and Trade closer to the public in a vivid, objective, and responsible manner.

The Minister also noted that a commendable aspect of this year's competition was the increasingly high quality of the entries, with content becoming more in-depth, not merely reflecting phenomena, but focusing on analyzing causes, assessing impacts, and proposing solutions. The winning entries underwent rigorous and impartial judging rounds and are valuable resources for management, administration, and communication regarding environmental protection.

"This shows that the competition not only brings honor but has truly become a channel for receiving information, feedback, criticism, and suggestions from journalistic practice for the state management work of the Ministry," Minister Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized.

To further promote the significance and results of the competition, contribute to raising community awareness and improving the effectiveness of environmental protection in the Industry and Trade sector in the future, and contribute to the successful achievement of the goals of green economic transformation and carbon neutrality by 2050, the Minister also requested that Party committees, Party organizations, mass organizations, leaders of units under the Ministry, and media agencies, experts, and researchers pay attention to the following points:

Firstly, we must continue to thoroughly implement the program and action plan on green economic transformation and the main tasks to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. We must intensify widespread dissemination of the competition results, especially the content of valuable and winning entries, to widely spread awareness throughout the Ministry and create new momentum for environmental protection efforts. At the same time, we must learn valuable lessons from this year's competition to research and advise the Standing Committee and Ministry leaders on launching and successfully organizing future competitions, ensuring practicality and effectiveness.

Secondly , the Department of Industrial Safety and Environmental Engineering will continue to improve the effectiveness of its advisory work, perfecting mechanisms and policies related to state management of the environment in the industry's areas of management; strengthen inspection, supervision, and environmental risk assessment in industrial production; proactively coordinate with relevant units to promptly detect, handle, and prevent emerging issues, ensuring sustainable development goals. It will also continue to effectively coordinate with press and media agencies to publicize and disseminate the efforts and results of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in environmental protection; thereby promptly identifying, highlighting, and replicating exemplary models and best practices, creating a ripple effect throughout the industry and society.

Thirdly , the Industry and Trade Newspaper and other press and media agencies under the Ministry will continue to play their role as key media outlets; constantly innovating content and diversifying the forms of articles written about the environment in the Industry and Trade sector. In particular, they will continue to improve the quality of organizing journalism competitions on the environment in the Industry and Trade sector in the coming years, diversifying the types of entries, focusing on photojournalism and multimedia journalism to convey environmental issues more vividly, making them more accessible, shareable, and impactful for the public. They will continue to attract widespread participation from journalists, experts, scientists, and collaborators; thereby enhancing the professional quality, analytical depth, and prestige of the competition.

The Minister also requested central and local media agencies, experts, and scientists to continue to cooperate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade in communicating about environmental protection. He urged them to further enhance the role of the press in social monitoring and criticism, truthfully and promptly reflecting existing issues, contributing to limiting violations and increasing the responsibility of organizations, businesses, and citizens in environmental protection. These contributions will help improve the effectiveness of state management, create a strong shift in awareness and action throughout society, for a green and sustainable development of the industry and economy.

Journalistic works have become a channel for critical analysis and suggesting solutions.

This year's entries comprehensively reflect the environmental landscape of the Ministry of Industry and Trade: from the reality of solid waste and air emissions in production; ash and slag treatment at thermal power plants; impacts from mineral exploitation; to models of renewable energy application, pollution reduction initiatives, energy-saving technologies, and circular production models of enterprises. Besides identifying pressing issues, many entries are highly directional, introducing solutions in line with green development trends and suggesting practical policies for state management agencies. The quality of the entries is consistent, demonstrating the serious investment of the participating teams and reflecting society's concern for current environmental challenges.

Honored to win an award at the competition, journalist Pham Nguyen Long - Deputy Head of the Economic Department, News Division of the Voice of Vietnam Radio, and co-author of the winning entry for the Special Prize, shared: " As a reporter who has followed the Industry and Trade sector for over 20 years, I see the topic of environmental protection in the sector as very important, bringing many benefits to businesses and the community."

From this perspective, the competition goes beyond simply awarding prizes; it contributes to forming a circular information flow: Policy - press - businesses - community. When information is conveyed fully, clearly, and with vivid examples, the environmental policies of the Ministry of Industry and Trade will truly be integrated into daily production.

Sharing his feelings about winning the competition, journalist Nguyen Van Huy - Deputy Secretary General of Tuoi Tre Thu Do Newspaper, author of the A Prize with a three-part series on energy, said that the appeal of the environmental topic lies in its close connection to the "hot" issues of the economy.

According to journalist Nguyen Van Huy, following the commitments at COP26, the goal of reducing emissions and moving towards net-zero emissions by 2050 has become a consistent direction. Therefore, articles on energy and the environment are no longer narrow specialized topics, but are directly related to the national development strategy.
