Photo exhibition and book introduction about the great war of the nation "Liberating the South, reunifying the Country"

On the morning of April 24, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi organized a photo exhibition to celebrate the "50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification", and a discussion to introduce two books: "Vision from History: Perfecting Vietnamese Values ​​in the New Era" and "April 30, 1975 - Looking Back 50 Years".

This is one of the activities of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU towards the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025); remembering and paying tribute to the great sacrifices and feats of arms of our army and people, thereby raising awareness of the value of freedom and national independence.

The program was jointly organized by the Museum of History and Culture, Faculty of History, Faculty of Political Science, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union - University of Social Sciences and Humanities, attracting the participation of more than 500 scientists, lecturers, students and interested people.

Many lecturers and students viewed valuable documents and images about the resistance war against the US, culminating in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign to liberate the South and unify the country.

This is also an opportunity for students to access sources of information; meet and interact with historical witnesses. From there, arouse patriotism and national pride in Humanities students, encourage active participation in community activities and research on the nation's heroic history.

According to the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, April 30, 1975 marked a brilliant milestone in the history of the Vietnamese nation. After more than two decades of steadfast struggle, overcoming countless difficulties and sacrifices, the resistance war against the US to save the country (1954-1975) ended in complete victory with the victory of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign.

Over the past 20 years, under the leadership of the Party, our army and people have successively defeated the war strategies of the US and the Republic of Vietnam government, ending with the victory on April 30, 1975, liberating the South, unifying the country, and bringing the country together.

The photo exhibition commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification introduces 40 documentary images recording historical moments of the nation's great resistance war against the US.
The exhibition is divided into 5 parts, including: (1) The Great War: Introducing important milestones of the war; decisive battles and feats of arms of the army and people of the North and South in the resistance war against the US; (2) Life during the war: Displaying photos of the lives of people in the two regions during the war; (3) Southern Liberation Day: Historical moments on April 30, 1975, when troops entered to liberate Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City; (4) 50 years of national reunification: Images reflecting the country's development from 1975 to present; (5) Introducing the book and author: "Vision from history to perfect Vietnamese values ​​in the new era" and "April 30, 1975 - 50 years looking back".

Historical photos in the exhibition

The valuable frames at the exhibition helped the public better understand the great national war with its desire for peace, the sacrifices, losses and lives of the people in the two regions during 20 years of fierce war, to love and appreciate the values ​​of peace more.

The commemorative photo exhibition will be displayed in the lobby on the first floor of Building E from April 22 to April 24, 2024 and in the yard of Building D, University of Social Sciences and Humanities from April 25 to April 29, 2025 for a large number of staff, lecturers, and students of the school to visit.

The two books introduced provide a fresh look at the heroic historical years of the nation.

On this occasion, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities respectfully organizes the introduction of two books: Vision from history, perfecting Vietnamese values ​​in the new era by Senior Lieutenant General, Doctor Nguyen Van Huong, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Deputy Minister of Public Security, the work provides a system of viewpoints and solutions to develop the country in the new era.

The second book, April 30, 1975 – Looking Back 50 Years by Architect Nguyen Huu Thai, former Saigon Student Association 1963-1964, who witnessed the important historical moment at the Independence Palace and Radio Station on April 30, 1975.

The seminar listened to the message of Senior Lieutenant General, Dr. Nguyen Van Huong, author of the book Vision from history, perfecting Vietnamese values ​​in the new era. From the historical and cultural perspective, the author proposed a system of viewpoints and solutions to help Vietnam soon perfect its values, entering the new era with solid foundations and launching pads to reach high and fly far.

In the book April 30, 1975 – Looking Back 50 Years by Architect Nguyen Huu Thai, he told about the moment he borrowed a cassette player from a foreign reporter to record the moment Duong Van Minh read the declaration of surrender to the liberation army.

According to the authors, the victory of the Ho Chi Minh campaign not only has significance for the country and people of Vietnam but also has profound international significance. It is a symbol of the spirit of independence, self-reliance and indomitable will of oppressed peoples around the world, strongly encouraging the national liberation movement.

This victory ended the prolonged and costly intervention of the United States in Vietnam, contributed to changing the world political situation and affirmed the truth: a nation, no matter how small, united and determined to fight for independence and freedom will certainly win. The Ho Chi Minh Campaign will forever be a brilliant golden page in history; a powerful testament to the power of patriotism and the aspiration for peace and unity of the Vietnamese people.
