In the flow of contemporary art, the search for personal identity is always a challenging journey for each artist. For painter Pham Ha Duy Khanh, that journey is affirmed through many exhibitions, the most recent of which is "Lat Pho".

The artist chooses to pause to dialogue with the city, memories and the viewer. "Lát Phố" is therefore a reminder of the value of authenticity, calmness and multi-layered emotions in today's artistic life.

From nostalgic street paintings, artist Pham Ha Duy Khanh returns with this solo exhibition as a continuation of his creative journey, while also creating a silent, haunting artistic dialogue about cities, memories and people.

If in previous exhibitions, Pham Ha Duy Khanh's paintings evoked the nostalgic beauty of old streets, "Lat Pho" takes viewers to other spaces, quieter, deeper, and with more layers of emotions.

A "street slice" of worry.

The artist guides and invites viewers to silently contemplate closed windows, cracks in walls, and empty spaces in urban areas overwhelmed by the fast pace of life. Each painting is a small corner of personal memories that has never faded away, but for the majority, if they slow down a beat, almost everyone will see themselves in it.

Sharing about this exhibition, the artist said that the highlight of the exhibition is not the grandeur but the quiet depth. Specifically, he experimented with the arrangement of condensed space, so that the street sections overlap according to the flow of memories rather than reality. The light in the paintings also becomes more metaphorical, creating the feeling that each painting is not only a landscape, but also a mood.

An impressive work by Pham Ha Duy Khanh at the exhibition.

Born in 1983 in Phu Tho, graduated from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts (majoring in Painting), Pham Ha Duy Khanh has been involved in visual arts for many years and has become an active face in the young artist community. Starting out as an art teacher, he moved to Hanoi to pursue professional painting and has participated in many exhibitions at home and abroad.

What the artist always preserves and makes the core foundation of his creations is his love for the old city, where architecture, the color of time and the spirit of life blend together. However, in order not to repeat himself, he seeks new ways of expression: condensed composition, quiet light, rich in metaphors.

Light in Pham Ha Duy Khanh's paintings is a highly appreciated element.

Painter Pham Ha Duy Khanh believes: "Personal identity is a unique rhythm. Artists do not necessarily have to follow trends to become modern, but need to maintain their aesthetic roots, while at the same time renewing them in storytelling and spatial structure."

Abstraction is often considered a challenge for both creators and viewers. For many artists, it is a way to escape the constraints of concrete images, but for viewers, abstraction sometimes causes a feeling of strangeness and elusiveness.

For artist Pham Ha Duy Khanh, abstraction does not seem to be a denial of reality but a path for him to delve deeper into his inner reality. His works in this genre open up a unique visual language: simple, quiet, suggestive and full of personal character.

From any angle, the street has its own beauty.

The old city, the streets, the roofs, the traces of time... are not cut off from that source. Viewers can still see the silhouettes of the streets through overlapping colors, still see the light through the layers of paint that evoke windows, still feel the breath of the city through the rhythm of the composition. In other words, abstraction is the way the artist "liberates" the image to make the work more polysemous.

Pham Ha Duy Khanh's paintings create a sense of stillness rather than a rushing flow. It is this stillness that makes the difference, not overwhelming, but capable of keeping the viewer longer, evoking memories or emotions that are difficult to name. It can be said that this is his way of bringing abstract paintings closer to the spiritual life of the public.

Familiar shapes and colors of the street.

One of the highlights of Pham Ha Duy Khanh's abstract paintings is their "multi-layered" nature. He often does not impose meaning on his works, but rather lets them become open spaces.

Viewers can look at a stained wall and remember an old house; or see overlapping layers of color and associate it with a turbulent life.

Here, abstraction is not a barrier, but a door that opens up many personal stories. That is also his artistic concept. He seeks abstraction as a means of dialogue, both learning the creative spirit of contemporary art and maintaining his own rhythm.

Pham Ha Duy Khanh's personality is clearly shown through colors and shapes.

Experts have commented that Pham Ha Duy Khanh's paintings bring about silence, subtlety, and multiple layers of emotion. With this exhibition, he wants the public to view the paintings and listen to themselves while contemplating. Each "street slice" opens up a space that is suggestive enough but not imposing, so that viewers suddenly remember a small alley, an old attic, or a familiar place.

The artist’s concept of beauty is simple yet profound: It is not about ostentation or elaborate techniques, but about authenticity and suggestion. Beauty can come from a patch of wall, light shining through a window, or visual balance that creates a rhythm in a composition. It is a quiet beauty, but it is enough to awaken emotions.

A work that evokes many memories.

With "Lat Pho", what the artist expects is not hasty compliments, but the moment when viewers stop longer in front of a painting. Because then, they have found a part of themselves in it. "I hope to have empathy first, then dialogue. I do not impose my thoughts, but want the audience to tell their own stories from my paintings," he shared.

The exhibition is an artistic journey inviting the public to return to their memories, to listen and find their own rhythm in the modern city. From there, the public can have new perspectives, feel their own rhythms. The quiet paintings of Pham Ha Duy Khanh are like the necessary silence for each person to listen to their memories, find empathy and love more the lasting values of culture, art and the simple beauty in life.
