Mr. Nguyen Trong Duong started his career in ornamental fish farming more than 20 years ago. Talking about his destiny, Mr. Duong shared that after many years of struggling to make a living but failing, in 2002 he returned to follow his father's career (ornamental fish farming) to make a living. Mr. Duong said: "When I first switched to fish farming, I had to try to study through books, newspapers and participate in short-term training courses at specialized schools in aquaculture. In addition, I also went to exchange and share experiences with brothers who shared the same passion for ornamental fish in and outside the province. Thanks to that, my knowledge about ornamental fish has increased and fish production and trading have also been more effective."

Through research and learning from predecessors, Mr. Duong learned that the South American discus fish has many species and is a fish with high potential, easy to breed, crossbreed and is popular in the market. Initially, Mr. Duong only bought young fish to raise, and when they were big enough, he sold them. However, during the breeding process, he discovered and researched crossbreeding many species and raised young fish to supply to the ornamental fish market.

Currently, Mr. Duong has a 1,000m2 ornamental fish pond on Binh Nham 07 Street, Binh Nham Ward, Thuan An City. Mr. Duong's ornamental fish farm currently has more than 100 types of fish. In addition to the types of fish exchanged and imported, he also researches and breeds some types of fish himself. His family's average annual revenue is about 1 billion VND. In addition, he also cooperates with many households raising and hatching fish in and outside the province to supply ornamental fish to the domestic and international markets. However, in recent years, the export of ornamental fish has decreased, affecting revenue.

“If a newbie fish farmer has no experience and rushes to raise a lot of fish, he will certainly fail. To become a fish farmer who makes a living by raising fish, he must first learn and become an artist. Because an artist will have accurate assessments of a beautiful fish, know how to take care of the fish, and have passion to succeed,” Mr. Duong confided.

The ornamental fish farming profession is helping many people in Binh Duong stabilize their lives and become rich legitimately. However, in order to be able to “survive” in the profession amidst the current competition, ornamental fish farmers need to actively learn from experience and self-breed beautiful, unique fish with their own brand.

From the ups and downs he has overcome, Mr. Duong secretly thinks that "we should not be selfish in enriching ourselves, but must demonstrate our responsibility to society". Therefore, he has helped members of the association with technical and production experience; coordinated with the Agricultural Extension Center and the Provincial Farmers' Association to train people in raising ornamental fish. In addition, Mr. Duong is also doing more research on discus fish with the hope of reducing costs and effectively preventing diseases for fish, thereby increasing profits for ornamental fish farmers.

With his efforts, Mr. Trong Duong was recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as an artisan in the ornamental fish farming industry. In addition, over the years, Mr. Duong has also received many certificates of merit, honors and certificates of merit from various levels inside and outside the province. He is currently being proposed to apply for recognition as an artisan in the ornamental fish farming industry at the central level.
