Referee Ngo Duy Lan and assistants Nguyen Trung Hau and Pham Hoai Tam officiated the match in the group stage of the 2023-2024 AFC Cup between Odisha Club (India) and Bashundhara Kings (Bangladesh).
This is a match where the away team Bashundhara Kings only need 1 point to be in the next round, while Odisha must win to have a ticket to continue.

After this situation, Bashundhara player immediately rushed towards the main referee to protest fiercely. After the first half whistle sounded, the coaching staff of the Bangladesh team also went to the sidelines to protest. The security team had to enter the field to "escort" Mr. Ngo Duy Lan and his assistants into the tunnel, ensuring the safety of the Vietnamese referee team.
In the second half, Bashundhara Club lost the match with only 10 players left on the field. The away team conceded a goal in the 61st minute after a goal by Serigne Mourtada Fall and could not equalize. Losing 0-1 on aggregate, Bashundhara lost the top spot and the ticket to the next round to the home team Odisha.
Frustrated with the referee’s previous decision to give him a red card, the away team’s players continued to attack referee Ngo Duy Lan after the match ended. Once again, security forces had to protect Mr. Ngo Duy Lan from Bashundhara’s attack, allowing the Vietnamese referee to leave the field safely.
In 2023, referee Ngo Duy Lan was appointed to officiate at the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and ASIAD 19, in addition to the AFC Cup.
