With the goal of becoming a modern industrial province and the industrial center of the Red River Delta by 2030, Hai Duong has planned inter-district space to exploit and make the most of the potential and strengths of each place.

Identifying transportation as a key factor, a connecting artery, Hai Duong has invested heavily in transportation projects in recent times. Many projects have been completed, are being implemented and continue to be implemented on 4 key traffic axes, playing a role in connecting regions in the province.

These 4 new inter-regional traffic axes, including 13 projects with a total investment of about 9,330 billion VND, will be the launching pad for the province's socio -economic development to take off. The traffic axes include: Vu Cong Dan Street (Hai Duong City) to Ke Sat Town (Binh Giang District) connecting to the Hanoi - Hai Phong Expressway Interchange at Provincial Road 392; the interchange with National Highway 5 in Kim Xuyen Commune (Kim Thanh) on the axis connecting Hai Duong Province and Hai Phong City; National Highway 5 in the Lai Vu Bridge area to Thanh Ha Town, through Hop Thanh Bridge to the Hanoi - Hai Phong Expressway Interchange; National Highway 5 connecting National Highway 18 from Hai Duong City through Han Bridge in Nam Sach District to Tan An Bridge in Chi Linh City.

Besides the 4 inter-regional traffic axes that are being urgently invested in and built, localities in Hai Duong are also simultaneously implementing many traffic projects to connect with the main axis.

The project to upgrade the extended provincial road 396 (the section connecting provincial road 391 to provincial road 390) is being implemented, which is the expectation and excitement of the people of Thanh Ha and Tu Ky districts. The project starts at the intersection between the East-West axis and provincial road 391 at km24+600 in Lac Phuong commune, with a main route length of about 7.6 km. Of which, the section in Thanh Ha district is about 3.66 km, the section in Tu Ky district is about 3.95 km. This is also an important project in completing the regional traffic infrastructure network, forming the provincial belt axis connecting the districts of Binh Giang, Thanh Mien, Ninh Giang, Tu Ky and Thanh Ha.

On April 19, Hai Duong province organized the technical opening of the East-West Axis Road Construction Investment Project of the province. This event marked a new step in the development of Hai Duong's transport infrastructure. The 36.6 km long route passes through Thanh Mien, Ninh Giang, and Tu Ky districts, with a scale of a level III plain road, a 12 m wide roadbed, an 11 m road surface, and a design speed of 80 km/h. This route connects with many main routes such as the Hanoi - Hai Phong Expressway, the North-South Axis Road, national highways 10, 37, 38B, and many provincial roads of Hai Duong, Hung Yen, etc.

In Kim Thanh district, the East-West axis road is identified as a key traffic project for the 2021-2025 period. With a total length of nearly 15.74 km and a total investment of more than VND 844 billion, the project is divided into 2 phases. Phase 1, 3.75 km long, was completed in June 2024, and Phase 2 is being implemented with a length of more than 7.8 km. When completed, this route will create a driving force for socio-economic development for the entire northwestern region of the province.

A series of other projects are also being implemented to strengthen the East-West axis connection, such as the axis connecting Vu Cong Dan Street (Hai Duong City) to Ke Sat Town (Binh Giang), including 4 projects: Construction of Vu Cong Dan Street in Hai Duong City, construction of the route connecting Vu Cong Dan Street in Hai Duong City to Cay Bridge in Cam Giang District; construction of Cay Bridge, Provincial Road 394; renovation and upgrading of Provincial Road 395 and the road leading to Cay Bridge, Binh Giang District.

Currently, at the starting and ending points of the East-West axis, two traffic projects are being implemented to continue the connection. These are the Hai Hung Bridge Project and the connecting road connecting the East-West axis of Hai Duong province with provincial road 389 in Phu Cu district (Hung Yen). In which, Hai Duong province invested in a 180 m long connecting road, costing about 60 billion VND. The Hai Hung Bridge project across the Chanh River is invested by Hung Yen province.

After the above projects are completed, the regional transport infrastructure network will continue to be completed, forming a belt axis of the province connecting the districts of Binh Giang, Thanh Mien, Ninh Giang, Tu Ky and Thanh Ha. This road connects with the Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway and National Highway 37, facilitating traffic and linking the southeastern districts of Hai Duong province with neighboring provinces and cities.

Along with that, the intersection connecting provincial road 390 in Thanh Ha district with Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway is under construction. Once completed, it will significantly shorten travel time and reduce traffic on existing routes.

Notably, Hai Duong is coordinating with Hai Phong City to study the investment plan for a trunk road connecting the administrative centers of the two localities with a total length of about 23.5 km to promote economic and social development. In particular, the traffic corridor connecting areas of Hai Duong province with the western localities of Hai Phong City and Dinh Vu - Cat Hai Economic Zone, the Southern Coastal Economic Zone of Hai Phong, and the Hai Phong international gateway port in Lach Huyen.

It is known that the road traffic system in Hai Duong province has a total length of nearly 15,000 km. Of which, there are 230 km of expressways and national highways; 496 km of 25 provincial roads; 485 km of district roads; 303 km of urban roads; 1,272 km of commune roads; more than 12,035 km of village roads, alleys, hamlets, inner-field roads, forest plots, to the fields and to the forests.

The implementation of large, modern transport projects connecting Hai Phong - Hai Duong has become urgent, helping to shorten travel time, facilitate trade of goods, and expand economic and urban space.

The development of a synchronous and modern transport infrastructure will contribute to paving the way for the socio-economic development of Hai Duong and Hai Phong City to be closely linked, creating a driving force to promote the socio-economic development of Hai Duong, connecting when merging the two localities, shaping a new development space.
