(Dan Tri) - Dramatically defeating Slovakia 2-1 at Dusseldorf Arena (Germany) on the evening of June 21, Ukraine got its first 3 points and continued to nurture hopes of advancing in Group E of Euro 2024.
Ukraine started with a tense mentality and they let Slovakia put all their pressure on the field. In a situation where Ukraine's defense lost focus, Ivan Schranz headed strongly into the penalty area to open the scoring for Slovakia in the 19th minute. The first half ended with Ukraine deadlocked, but the second half saw Slovakia's players lose strength. In a quick attack, Oleksandr Zinchenko crossed from the left wing for Mykola Shaparenko to finish in the penalty area, equalizing 1-1 for Ukraine in the 54th minute. In the excitement, Ukraine pressed the field and Roman Yaremchuk finished delicately to seal a 2-1 victory for Ukraine.
