Continuous floods and landslides threatened the safety of military equipment. However, in such a dangerous situation, Regiment 921 demonstrated initiative, high sense of responsibility and the ability to respond to all situations, ensuring absolute safety for equipment and people, while supporting the people, demonstrating the bravery of air force soldiers in all circumstances.

Prepare carefully, react quickly

Lieutenant Colonel Do Chi Dung, Deputy Regiment Commander and Chief of Staff of Air Force Regiment 921, said that before storm No. 3 made landfall, telegrams of instructions from higher levels were continuously sent to the unit. Realizing the seriousness of the storm, the Party Committee and the Regiment Command held an urgent meeting to assess the situation and come up with a suitable adjustment plan to deal with the super storm. With the forecast that the storm would directly affect Yen Bai province, the Regiment urgently made plans to prevent and protect military equipment and facilities.

Yen Bai airport runway was quickly cleared of mud to ensure takeoff and landing of flights.

In fact, during the preparation process, the 921st Air Force Regiment accurately assessed the risk of localized flooding due to heavy rain and water flowing from upstream. Realizing the critical situation, the Party Committee and the Regiment Command quickly directed the relocation of all aircraft and equipment to higher, safer locations in the airport area. The relocation process took place urgently and smoothly, carried out simultaneously with maintaining combat operations, ensuring readiness for any emergency situation.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Do Chi Dung, in harsh weather conditions with heavy rain and localized flooding, Air Force Regiment 921 mobilized its entire force of nearly 600 officers and soldiers to participate in the relocation work. Thanks to the spirit of solidarity and consistent direction from the Party Committee and the Regiment Command, large quantities of military equipment, aircraft, and heavy weapons were successfully moved to safe locations without causing any damage. In particular, the relocation of aircraft and weapons was carried out quickly and effectively even in the dark, with power outages and lack of motor vehicles.

With thousands of tons of military equipment, weapons and aircraft to be relocated, the regiment coordinated to make optimal use of available resources. To cope with the flooding, vehicles such as trucks and specialized vehicles were mobilized to support the rapid movement of heavy equipment. The smooth coordination between human power and vehicles helped the 921st Air Force Regiment overcome the challenge and successfully complete the mission.

Lieutenant Colonel Do Chi Dung also shared that time is also a factor that puts great pressure on officers and soldiers during the performance of their duties. Despite the harsh weather conditions of the storm and heavy rainfall, affecting the movement and preservation of equipment, all officers and soldiers of the 921st Air Force Regiment still tried their best, using maximum resources to ensure no loss of life or property.

The unit’s success in protecting military equipment and weapons from storm No. 3 is a clear demonstration of its sense of responsibility, proactiveness and ability to respond quickly. This not only demonstrates the solidarity and spirit of overcoming difficulties of the entire force, but also demonstrates discipline and the ability to command and coordinate effectively in all emergency situations.

The lesson learned from this event, according to comrade Do Chi Dung, is the necessity of accurately predicting weather conditions, being proactive in disaster prevention plans, and especially the coordination between people and means. Thanks to careful preparation and decisive command, Air Force Regiment 921 completed the task of protecting equipment, ensuring absolute safety for people, equipment and military equipment.
