University abolishes the regulation of adding 3 admission points for candidates with IELTS from 4.0

On May 5, Hanoi University of Culture officially announced information on university enrollment in 2025, with many changes compared to the enrollment plan announced by the school in March 2025.

Accordingly, this year the school will recruit 1,900 students with 3 admission methods, including direct admission, priority admission for candidates with outstanding abilities and achievements; admission based on high school graduation exam scores; and consideration of academic records.

With the method of considering high school graduation exam scores and academic records, Hanoi University of Culture stipulates that in addition to the priority admission points according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training , the school will add 1 - 3 points on a 30-point scale for candidates with English certificates according to the school's regulations.

Specifically, candidates with IELTS from 4.0 - 4.5 will get 1 point, IELTS 5.0 will get 2 points, IELTS 5.5 - 6.5 will get 2.5 points, IELTS from 6.5 and above will get 3 points; candidates with TOEFL ITP 450 - 499 will get 2 points, from 500 - 626 will get 2.5 points...

Previously, in the admission plan announced in March 2025, Hanoi University of Culture planned to add 3 admission points for candidates with foreign language certificates as follows: IELTS from 4.0; TOEFL ITP from 450 points; TOEFL iBT from 45 points...

The school's plan to add 3 admission points to candidates with IELTS certificates from 4.0 has caused mixed opinions.

Some people think that 4.0 IELTS is a fairly low score but adding up to 3 points for admission will create unfairness in admission, while candidates have to compete for 0.1 - 0.2 points to be admitted to training programs.

Bonus points for candidates with foreign language certificates are adjusted by Hanoi University of Culture as follows:

This year, the school plans to use 10 admission combinations, including D01 (literature, math, English), D14 (literature, history, English), D15 (literature, geography, English), X78 (literature, English, economic and legal education).

In addition, the school considers the combination of C00 (literature, history, geography), C03 (literature, math, history), C04 (literature, math, geography), X01 (literature, math, economic and legal education), X70 (literature, history, economic and legal education); N00 (literature, talent 1, talent 2).

Last year, the admission score based on high school exam scores to Hanoi University of Culture ranged from 22.85 to 28.9 points on a 30-point scale. Of which, journalism had the highest standard score with combination C00.
