According to the Decision, Can Tho University is a public university under the Ministry of Education and Training , has legal status, its own seal and account, and is headquartered in Can Tho City.
Can Tho University restructures its organization and operations on the basis of Can Tho University in accordance with the provisions of the Law on HigherEducation and relevant legal provisions.
The Ministry of Education and Training, the People's Committee of Can Tho City and relevant agencies, according to their functions, tasks and authority, shall guide and supervise the conversion process to ensure transparency, prevent negativity, loss and waste of finance and assets; not affect the normal and continuous operation of the school; ensure the legitimate and legal rights and interests of learners, lecturers, managers, employees and related organizations and individuals according to the provisions of law.
The University Council, the Chairman of the University Council, and the Rector of Can Tho University shall continue to perform their functions, duties, and powers in accordance with current regulations until the Minister of Education and Training decides to establish the University Council, recognize the Chairman of the University Council, and recognize the Director of Can Tho University in accordance with the provisions of law.
This Decision comes into force from the date of signing and promulgation.
Currently, in terms of organizational structure, Can Tho University has 6 member schools, including: Polytechnic School, Information Technology and Communication School, Economics School, Agriculture School, Pedagogy School, and Fisheries School. The unit also has 10 faculties, 3 research institutes and 1 Pedagogical Practice High School.
Can Tho University is currently training 121 undergraduate majors/specializations, 58 master's majors/specializations and 22 doctoral majors. Of these, 13 majors train all 3 levels from undergraduate to doctoral. The school's regular training scale in the past 5 years has always reached over 35,000 university students.
In the 2025 academic year, Can Tho University plans to enroll 10,060 students, with a total of 109 regular university training programs. Of these, there are 89 general programs, 2 advanced programs, and 13 high-quality programs.
By 2030, Can Tho University will become one of the universities with training quality and scientific identity on par with advanced universities in Southeast Asia; a strong training center for countries in the Mekong River basin; with activities and roles on par with the region and the world; a place of convergence, diffusion and influence in the region and the world.
