Ho Chi Minh City National University cooperates with 2 American universities to solve Ho Chi Minh City's 'problems'

Within the framework of the working trip of the Ho Chi Minh City senior leadership delegation to the US, on October 16, Ho Chi Minh City National University signed two important cooperation agreements with the Doerr School of Sustainable Development - Stanford University and Arizona State University (ASU), to promote research, training and knowledge transfer to serve the sustainable development of Ho Chi Minh City.

Solutions for green development and sustainable urban areas

In California, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City and Doerr School of Sustainable Development have established a strategic partnership in the following areas: waste management, treatment and recycling technology; climate change, greenhouse gases and Net-Zero goals; water resource protection and urban air quality; sustainable energy and data centers; and the implementation of pilot projects on environment, energy and sustainable development in Ho Chi Minh City.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, emphasized that today's signing not only opens up opportunities for sharing knowledge and technology between the two universities in the fields of environment and energy, but is also the first step for this university to expand cooperation with other Stanford units in high-tech fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, biotechnology and smart university cities.

The two sides pledged to mobilize resources to implement cooperation projects, workshops, training programs, as well as exchange lecturers and students.

This is considered a concrete step to address environmental challenges and form a "three-way" cooperation model, including schools, the State, and businesses for sustainable urban development.

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc emphasized that Ho Chi Minh City is prioritizing digital transformation, developing the digital economy and clean energy, so it needs breakthrough solutions and high-quality human resources.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee hopes that the cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City National University and Stanford University will open up joint training, research and laboratory programs, contributing to training a generation of human resources with global vision for Vietnam.

Professor Arun Majumdar, Dean of the Doerr School of Sustainable Development, expressed his delight at the cooperation agreement and highly appreciated the efforts of Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City in green development.

Professor Arun Majumdar said that this cooperation will promote highly applicable research, aiming at sustainable energy and environmental solutions for the Southeast Asian region.

The Doerr School of Sustainable Development's principal affirmed that the school's strategy focuses on connecting innovation with industrialization and training a generation of leaders capable of creating change - completely similar to the development orientation of Ho Chi Minh City.

Developing high-tech human resources for Ho Chi Minh City

Within the framework of the Ho Chi Minh City - US Fall Forum 2025, Ho Chi Minh City National University and Arizona State University (ASU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

The two sides expressed a strong commitment to promoting academic exchanges and scientific and technological cooperation, especially in areas consistent with the development orientation of Ho Chi Minh City.

The MoU content focuses on strategic areas: Microchip design and semiconductor technology, artificial intelligence, industry 4.0 engineering, Internet of Things (IoT) applications, biomedical engineering and health.

The two parties will cooperate in research and development (R&D) activities on semiconductor assembly, test and packaging (ATP) technology, and develop training programs, student-faculty exchanges, organize workshops and joint research initiatives.
