Minister Nguyen Kim Son visited and encouraged educational institutions in Thai Nguyen

GD&TĐ - After the historic floods caused by storm No. 11, many educational facilities in Thai Nguyen were seriously affected.

The education sector suffered heavy losses.

On October 18, a working delegation of the Ministry of Education and Training led by Minister Nguyen Kim Son, together with representatives of departments and bureaus under the Ministry, directly visited, shared and encouraged staff, teachers and students of schools to overcome difficulties and soon stabilize teaching and learning.
Receiving and working with the delegation were Mr. Pham Hoang Son, Chairman of Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee, along with leaders of Thai Nguyen University, Department of Education and Training and local agencies, departments and branches.

At Huong Thuong Kindergarten (Linh Son Ward), the entire school campus was deeply flooded. Classrooms, the principal's office, the kitchen, and the warehouse were all submerged in mud.

Ms. Pham Thi The, the school's principal, said that 27 out of 38 teachers and staff had their houses flooded and 270 out of 310 students had to evacuate, many families lost all their household items.

The material damage to the school was huge, many teaching equipment, daily necessities, desks and chairs, computers, printers, toys, and children's books were completely damaged. The fence of the facility collapsed, many items were damaged. The total damage was estimated at over 1 billion VND.

Prioritize stabilizing teaching and learning for students

After visiting Huong Thuong Kindergarten, Minister Nguyen Kim Son and his delegation visited Thai Nguyen High School for the Gifted, Thai Nguyen University of Education (Thai Nguyen University) and the Department of Education and Training of Thai Nguyen province.

At each destination, the Minister gave gifts, encouraged staff, teachers, and students, and hoped that schools would continue to promote the spirit of solidarity and responsibility to help localities overcome difficulties.

Mr. Pham Hoang Son, Chairman of Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee, said: The province has directed departments, branches and sectors to mobilize forces, materials and means to support schools in cleaning up mud and disinfecting, prioritizing the early return of students to class.
Along with that, the locality also received support and attention from businesses, organizations and individuals inside and outside the province to join hands to support equipment, books and school supplies for students in flood-affected areas.

According to statistics from the Thai Nguyen Department of Education and Training, as of October 14, 2025, the circulation of storm No. 11 caused heavy rain and floods, causing many areas in the province to be deeply inundated, landslides, and many properties of educational institutions were damaged. The whole province has 180 educational institutions affected, of which 167 are under commune management and 13 units are under the management of the Department of Education and Training.

Total damage to facilities is estimated at more than 181 billion VND, including many schools with damaged classrooms, electrical equipment, fences, libraries, playgrounds, and clean water systems.
In addition, the Thai Nguyen Department of Education also counted 11,658 sets of textbooks, 55,476 notebooks and 5,185 sets of student learning materials that were damaged or lost and needed support.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Thai Nguyen province, said: Faced with that situation, the Department of Education and Training of Thai Nguyen province has proactively coordinated with local authorities to make a list of damages, classify the level to have a plan to overcome them in order of priority.
Schools organize cleaning workers and mobilize forces to participate in restoring the learning environment.

For Thai Nguyen University, the total estimated damage to facilities is about 137 billion VND, of which the University of Education and the University of Agriculture and Forestry are the two units with the most damage.

Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Van Hung, Director of Thai Nguyen University, said: Immediately after the water began to recede, Thai Nguyen University and its units promptly and proactively implemented measures to overcome the consequences, focusing on stabilizing the lives of staff, civil servants and workers, and preparing classrooms for students to return to school.

Sharing the difficulties that teachers and students have gone through, Minister Nguyen Kim Son sent his warm regards and encouragement to teachers and students.

The Minister commended the proactive and flexible efforts of schools, teachers, and administrators in organizing damage recovery to ensure safety and bring students back to class soon.

At the same time, the Minister also requested Thai Nguyen province to continue mobilizing resources, prioritizing support for repairing facilities and teaching equipment so that schools can quickly stabilize operations.

The Minister emphasized the need to support textbooks, invest in facilities, and reinforce schools in disadvantaged areas and damaged schools. Thai Nguyen University was assigned to continue training high-quality human resources, especially human resources serving educational institutions.
