University of Social Sciences and Humanities adds 2 more groups after controversy over dropping literature - history - geography

The Admissions Council of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has just decided to open additional groups C03 (math, literature, history) and C04 (math, literature, geography) for all 28 training majors of the school in 2025.

After the Ministry of Education and Training requested a review of the admission combination to ensure the rights of candidates, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi has made adjustments and further explained the changes in the school's admissions.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the afternoon of June 6, Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong - Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - affirmed that the school's enrollment information complies with the Ministryof Education and Training's 2025 university and college enrollment guidelines and the 2025 regular university enrollment guidelines of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

However, to create more opportunities for candidates to register for the entrance exam to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in 2025, the school's admissions council met, asked for opinions and decided to open additional groups C03 (math, literature, history) and C04 (math, literature, geography) for all 28 training majors of the school.

"With the newly adjusted enrollment information released by the school, candidates taking the 2025 high school entrance exam will be given the best conditions to be able to register for the school entrance exam," said Ms. Huong.

Thus, with 8 admission combinations announced on June 4, the admission scene is currently considering 10 combinations.

The school made the above move after students' reactions when the school stopped considering the combination of literature, history, and geography with 17 majors compared to last year, leaving candidates pursuing this combination for 3 years of high school unable to cope.

Previously, explaining the change in admission combinations in the 2025 admission season, Ms. Huong said that the school replaced combination C00 with other combinations based on the innovation orientation of high school exam subjects, according to the admission requirements of each industry and the foreign language output standards of the ministry.

School abandons C00 complex, causing many concerns

Previously, on June 4, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities announced enrollment information that shocked many high school graduation exam students with a combination of literature, history, and geography, because this year the school only considered 9/28 majors with the C00 combination, a decrease of 17 majors compared to last year.

17 majors do not consider literature, history, geography, including many hot majors of the school such as journalism, psychology, sociology, social work...

Instead, the school considers combinations such as: D15 (literature, English, geography), D14 (literature, English, history) and D66 (literature, English, economic and legal education). Thus, candidates who have chosen to take two elective subjects, history and geography, cannot access these combinations.

This year, history and geography are the two elective subjects that most candidates choose to take, with nearly half a million candidates each (equivalent to nearly 50% of candidates choosing to take history and geography). English is the elective subject with the third most candidates, with nearly 360,000 candidates.

The school's announcement to remove the combination of literature, history, and geography in many majors about 20 days before the high school graduation exam caused many mixed opinions and confusion among students.

According to the 2025 university admission regulations, schools will announce admission information at least 30 days before opening the first round of registration. This year, candidates will register their university admission wishes from July 16 to July 28.

In order to create fairness for candidates, the Ministry of Education and Training requires training institutions that use multiple admission methods or admission combinations for a major to convert scores. If they cannot convert scores, they must not use multiple methods or combinations.
