Truong Thanh Vietnam, TEG and Tokyo Gas cooperate to develop million-dollar wind power project

Truong Thanh Vietnam Group, TTP (a subsidiary of TEG - Truong Thanh Energy and Real Estate JSC) and Tokyo Gas have signed a 3-party cooperation agreement (MOU) to develop the V1-2 Wind Power Plant expansion in Tra Vinh .

On August 21, 2024, within the framework of the AZEC 2024 Ministerial Conference held in Jakarta (Indonesia), Truong Thanh Vietnam Group, TTP (a subsidiary of TEG - Truong Thanh Energy and Real Estate JSC) and Tokyo Gas signed a tripartite cooperation agreement (MOU) to develop the V1-2 Wind Power Plant expansion in Tra Vinh. This is a project with a total investment of about 2,300 billion VND (about 92 million USD), with a capacity of 48 MW.

The Minister of Economy , Trade and Industry of Japan (METI) took a photo with representatives of businesses participating in the signing ceremony.

The V1-2 wind power plant expansion is included in the Tra Vinh province's energy development plan and is on the list of renewable energy projects to generate electricity in the 2026-2030 period according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade 's Power Plan VIII Implementation Plan.

The project will soon make Tra Vinh one of the first localities to deploy a large-scale offshore wind power project, contributing to building Tra Vinh province into a renewable energy center of the region and the country. At the same time, the expanded V1-2 wind power plant will supply more than 160 million kWh of electricity per year to the national grid and contribute tens of billions of VND per year to the local budget throughout the project's life cycle.

The V1-2 wind power plant expansion was surveyed and developed by Truong Thanh Vietnam - one of the largest renewable energy enterprises in Vietnam, in cooperation with the leading Japanese energy corporation Tokyo Gas. This is a corporation with 139 years of operation (established in 1885) and is the largest gas company in Japan, with an important position in the global gas industry, and is also the main supplier of liquefied gas to many major cities in Japan such as Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, etc. Currently, Tokyo Gas has 10 representative offices in many countries and markets around the world, including 6 representative offices in 5 Asian countries.

Meanwhile, Truong Thanh Vietnam has affirmed its position as one of the pioneering enterprises in the field of investment in construction of renewable energy projects in Vietnam by investing and putting into operation 4 renewable energy projects, including 3 solar power projects and 1 wind power project, with a total capacity of 412 MW.

Most recently (December 2023), Truong Thanh Vietnam, Tokyo Gas and Kyuden were also the consortium that was granted the Investment Registration Certificate for the Thai Binh LNG Power Plant Project with a scale of 2 billion USD. This is a large project of national stature, included in the list of important power source and grid projects, prioritized for investment by the electricity sector under the Power Plan VIII, playing an important role in the Government's commitment to green and clean energy transition.

Notably, the signing ceremony for the development of the V1-2 Wind Power Plant expansion between Truong Thanh Vietnam and Tokyo Gas, witnessed by guests at the AZEC Summit (Asian Net Zero Emissions Community), is also significant as the total emission reduction output from the Project is estimated at about 94,500 tons of CO2/year, contributing to the process of reducing net emissions to 0 (Net Zero) as set by the Vietnamese government, as well as in line with AZEC's efforts to promote carbon emission reduction.

Attending the AZEC 2024 Ministerial Conference as a representative enterprise of Vietnam, a pioneer in reducing the greenhouse effect, through the development and application of renewable energy power plant projects, Mr. Mac Quang Huy, Vice Chairman of Truong Thanh Energy Joint Stock Company (TTP), a unit participating in the V1-2 Wind Power Plant Extension project, shared some experiences on the green energy transition process in Vietnam.

“The Vietnamese government has clearly demonstrated its determination to transform energy, contribute to ensuring national energy security and realize the goal of sustainable growth. TTP, as well as members of Truong Thanh Vietnam Group, are striving to contribute to this process through projects that have been and are being implemented. In addition to developing onshore and nearshore wind power projects, we are working with partners to study opportunities in offshore wind power projects and participate when conditions are ripe,” said Mr. Mac Quang Huy.

AZEC – Asia Zero Emission Community
AZEC is a community organized under the initiative proposed by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in January 2022 and then established by 11 countries in 2023. AZEC's goal is to support and promote carbon emission reduction activities across Asia, moving towards net zero emissions, while ensuring economic development and energy security to suit the situation and specific characteristics of different countries.

In 2024, the AZEC Ministerial Conference 2024 will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia from August 20 to 21. The Conference will be attended by delegates and ministers from many AZEC countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei and Australia. In addition, the Conference will also organize the AZEC Business Forum on August 21 to promote carbon emission reduction in enterprises, through business networking and cooperation activities.
