The ballet “Kieu”, adapted from the poem Tale of Kieu by the great poet Nguyen Du - a masterpiece of Vietnamese literature - will be performed on March 23-24 at the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO).
Ballet “Kieu” is one of the most successful performances of the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera. The performance represents a combination of the world ’s classical ballet achievements with the quintessence of traditional Vietnamese art.

The ballet "Kieu" does not choose to retell the entire work of the great poet Nguyen Du, but leads the audience through journeys filled with sweet happiness mixed with bitterness, resentment, spiritual challenges and the ultimate life of Kieu.
The ballet is constructed with 15 scenes, expressing psychological nuances, the continuity and contrast of the paintings create attraction and surprise through every moment.
In particular, the play also uses a number of special stage effects in terms of lighting, holograms and overhead performances to expand the space and create a strong visual impression.
The work was directed by Master Nguyen Thi Tuyet Minh, at the same time, she took on many other roles such as general director, scriptwriter, and choreographer.
Master Tuyet Minh is famous for 18 dance works, plays, musicals and nearly 40 art programs and anniversary programs highly appreciated by experts. In 1998, she was a lecturer at the Vietnam Dance Academy and held the position of Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Dance Association in 2020.
The music in the work is also a special highlight, resulting from the combination of two very different musical styles by famous musician Vu Viet Anh and artist Chinh Ba.
Viet Anh received a master's degree in composition from Waikato University (New Zealand), composing pop music, orchestral music, film music, and of course, music for dance plays.
Meanwhile, Chinh Ba is a versatile artist with works of poetry, music, and theater. As the founder of the CAB art space in Hoi An City, he pays special attention to traditional Vietnamese folk songs, which he also experimented with in Kieu.
The main role of Kieu will be played by Thach Hieu Lang. The Saigon girl started studying dance at the age of 4. After graduating, Thach Hieu Lang began collaborating with the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera in several ballets, such as Cinderella, Carmen, Giselle, Nutcracker, and Coppelia.
The play also features highly regarded talented artists: Meritorious Artist Dam Duc Nhuan in the role of Kim Trong, Pham Minh Tuan in the role of Tu Hai, Do Hoang Khang Ninh in the role of Thuy Van...
